Have a chat with Keith Farrow at http://www.lmentryimports.co.uk regarding the RM metal's gain and tone. I use a standard RM (less gain than the metal version) thro a nano and the amount of 'push' is incredible . As you say only one control for level so changes are made in the old fashioned way by adjusting your guitars output/tone. You can go from almost clean to crunch to out and out grindy sizzle.

Just one more thing they only really work when you're amp is already running flat out (pushing the power section into rediculous amounts of saturation) rather than front end distortion like other overdrives/dstortions and have found them to work better with traditional amp gain structures ie non master volume amps

I think I have decided on a DHA pedal aswell. Ive been talkin with Dave at DHA for the past couple days and hes gonna custom modify me a VH2 Fatguts so that it will have all the standard fatguts features but with a fat switch, a treble boost switch and a clip switch. Its got two 12AX7's and im gettin a pretty good deal on it. I am still entrigued by the BSM RM-Metal though and i think it would go pretty well with a bigger valve amp (plexi maybe? ) once i can get the money.

Hi,

Your VT2-Fatguts-Custom is finished and on its way to our new site in Austin, Texas. I am very pleased with the results and I hope you will be as well.

The design has been improved from the first VT2-Fatguts you saw on ebay as I have added an extra Gain knob so that the user now has control of the gain at each of the 4 stages. So, the new controls are Tone (can be switched off), Gain 1, Gain 2, Gain 3 and Level + I/P Level on Bass versions. There is also a 3 position switch for Colour which provides 2 types of Colour plus off. Colour adds negative feedback to the circuit which adds gain and valve compression, think Marshall plexi.  :twisted:

Your Custom version also has the Fat, Treble Boost and Clip Switches.

What I've been hearing a lot is that the Soldano Supercharger sounds awesome with fatter more Fender voiced amps rather than Marshalls, but I've also heard it sounds awesome with vertical input JCM 800s so I don't know... maybe it's just with new Marshalls they sound harsh?

I'd think my Major (what I'm buying it for) could fit into the Fender category....

^ im pretty sure the VT2 is the twin channel version of the fatguts. Which has only one channel. There are several different models of VT 2 though(Twin, Dual, and the Fatguts I believe) so I could be wrong.

Hi,

The VT2-Fatguts is a single channel two valve high gain pedal. So its On of Off.

The VT2-Twin has two channels selectable as 1 or 2 and 1+2 and bypass.

The VT2-Dual is 1 or 1+2 and bypass.

The VT1s are single channel single valve pedals so lower gain and just on or off

What kinda voicing does the VT1 Purist have? Ie modern, vintage etc? Also how much gain can get out of it? Guessing not a lot..

:D Hi Tom the VT 1 has no particular voicing. It has a Valve [ 12AX7 ] in it which gives natural overdrive. If you have the gain up full on it you`ll be touching AC/DC type gain.Think High Voltage era Rythm guitar & you`ll be close.  IT`s really good for Blues & Blues rock type  styles. If you`ve got your amp set up for a rythm sound But want more saturation & a bit of boost for a solo then this is the pedal.

If you use an amp modeler then putting this infront of it helps to smooth out the sounds slightly.

Hi,

I have a full range of my own pedals on my board but find I use just the VT1-Purist fitted with an NOS Mullard ECC83 most of the time. Now and then I step on the VT2-Twin on 1+2 mode for the big heavy rock solos.

I find with my Strat I can get the SRV type tone on Little Wing and the Les Paul is great for Angus type tones and blues.

It's really just a pre-amp and only at higher gain settings does it add a bit of soft-clipping valve distortion. It is great for controlling the crunch with the guitar, that is hit the strings hard and it distorts more which gives a nice way to be in contact with the amp if that makes sense  :?

Think Fat harmonics  :D
