Amp repair problem (need info)
« on: September 08, 2006, 11:26:39 AM »
Hi,

I'm stuck at home without internet access, hence I'm sitting in the park leeching access from a wireless connection otherwise I'd do more research myself.

My beloved fender Blues Jr has a broken tone control (treble pot), as somebody in my wonderful family has dropped something heavy on the control and shattered the innards of the pot.

I have stripped the amp and removed it and know it's a 250K pot, however I don't know what ampage to replace it with, any suggestions ?

Fender have been as much use as testicles on a monk and I have been unable to find anything useful (batteries are dying and can't check any more)

If anybody has some idea it would be appreciated and I will check back later.

Thanks,

Rob...
Goodbye London !

Just a standard 1/2w, 250k linear taper pot will do the trick.  you can get them for around £1 at Maplins.

If you want to order online you could help the DIY community here... http://www.ampmaker.com/vr01x.asp

I will check them out as I have to be back on London on Monday now (my shift partner has decided to be ill again) so my 4 weeks at home is screwed up (again).

I grabbed the 'official' circuit diagrams and they claim it's a 10A (yeah I know wierd or what). Unfortinitely it's a small board mounted pot and theres not much space to install a 'normal' sized maplin part. However the local guitar shops amp tech was in and he is obtaining me a couple of spare pots. This means me living with in AVT 50 or Korg Pandora digital thingie for a while :(

Thanks for the info the .5W rating looks sensible (going to replace the master volume to a 50K to get a bit more control over the amp volume).

One again many thanks for the reply.

I got an reply from Bill Machrone (a modder of Blues Jrs) with an address for the replacement pots.

As they stock shed loads of vintage stock parts I will post the address here incase it's useful to anybody else looking parts http://www.tubesandmore.com/
