actually comparing to dimazio and duncuns that I've used bkps are usually quieter, as are so well made and wax potted to stop microphonic resonance(think thats what they call it, basically feedback)
what makes them special is the sound have been through lots of pickups (can list them if you want) but bkps to my ears and many other a better clearer sound whatever style of music you play, hell one of there hottest output pickups the Warpig(great for heavey metal tones, well any tones for me) still sounds great clean or split to a single...have not found a high output duncun or dimazio that can sound that nice clean.......and if your going from active pickups to these there will be more of a difference because to me active pickups sound quite sterile these are very sweet and open sounding(can hear every note even at high gain, or dropped tuning)
oh yeah forgot hand winding is supposed to give a better sound as well over machine made
