z-vex nano head to speaker?
« on: September 09, 2006, 03:53:14 PM »
well, i am thinking about trying one of these out, and of course i would be getting a speaker cab to partner it.  but in the meantime i was wondering if it's possible to connect it to the speaker inside a combo?  the combo we have has two speaker outputs, one of which is plugged into the internal 12" speaker, and it says that there should be a load of no less than 4 ohms connected.  these things confuse me!!  so can i plug this speaker directly into the output of the nano head?  or any other amp?  if i'm thinking right this is an 8 ohm speaker, right?

any help greatly appreciated.

Yes that's ok.

The 1/4" 'Speaker output' socket on the back of your combo/amp should have a 1/4" jack plug running from it to the combo's internal speaker(s). This/these will usually be 8 ohms impedance in total, if it ever differs, it is usually 16 ohms which is still well above the Zvex required minimum of 4 ohms.

Plug this jack plug straight into the output socket of your Nano and you will have an appropriate load.

Just ( forgive me for saying this ) - just don't absent mindedly turn on your main amp/combo also with it's speaker disconnected without first pre- arranging it with your local fire department.

Regards,

Derek.   :)
