Warpigs + Basswood = WOW!
« on: September 09, 2006, 10:51:14 PM »
Just took my Warpigs out of my Les Paul and replaced them with a Black Dog bridge and MQ neck, best thing I ever did, they sound awsome. I was going to stick the Warpigs in the drawer till I got something that would suit them better than the Les Paul (always fancied getting an Explorer and thought they'd work well in that).

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I decided to try them in my rather beat up 1988 Ibanez RG550. WOW! What a sound. Much smoother sounding than I expected, and surprising capable of blasting out some seriously cool lead lines as well as some meaty riffs.

I still wouldn't recommend Warpigs to anyone with a Les Paul, but if you've got a guitar made from basswood, they definately get the thumbs up from me.

Yeah, my warpigs in a basswood/maple jackson. Its very well ballanced in there eq wise; plenty of lows but not overbearing, crisp highs but not too sharp (I dont think a pig can be, really), rich mids.

Makes a kickass lead sound in it.

Normally basswood sounds kinda cr@p but it works great with a Warpig. Nice deep metal tone.

Kinda beg to differ,
Petrucci,Vai,Satriani, to mention just 3, ALL use Basswood guitars!
My Petrucci is ANYTHING but dead, and when I get it BKP'd 'Watch Out'!

imo, it's just like any other tone wood.

if it's cheap, it suxxx!! if it's good quality it's pretty damn good.

it's ibanezs' fault that basswood deteriorated into cr@pwood territory, because it grows in VERY large quantities and is therefore ultra cheap. then they make the high end guitars from the good pieces, then glue the rest together and make the entry models. the one/two piece bodies are cheap, soft baswood, and not very resonant.

so there.

my guitar sounded pretty damn good even with the duncan JB, but with the warpig, like said, it's a totaly diferent beast

EVO is alder. the sig JEMs mean absolute shite
satch for me never had amazing tone
and everybody knows petrucci is using ancient chinese oak for body wood LMAO

Seem to be arguing against basswood when you might have a basswood yourself???

Point is, to others, knock what ya don't own etc. but knock with 'experience', not to follow 'the IN crowd'.

Could'nt care less if it was made of chipboard if it plays well

I've always thought Warpigs sounded amazing in basswood-I've even had a set in a prototype resin guitar and they were blinding.I personally don't like them in LPs though as I think it all gets a little too much but that's just a personal observation.

another vote for basswood sounding good (again, if you have a decent slab of it, like davey says)- you can get an excellent shreddy lead tone a la satch with it. i guess the people who don't like it don't dig that 80's shred tone?

If it's sucky Koa or rare barzillian it sucks.
Point is a good guitar (INC. tone) is what matters IMO, NOT what the kind of tree it came from.
Was simply stating that opinions are best when 'informed' is all.
Sheesh, this board gets VERY heated at times over nothing!
Heck, am SURE Tim could make an MFI plank sound good if he put his time/mind to it with appropriate pups

Alright alright!  :o

Thanks for bringing this Basswood/Warpig thing up as I would have never of known!

See you did good.  8)

I still bleed for a WarPig and got sidetracked with all the others! Have you seen those Schecters with the ahem, 1940's themed paint jobs? They would do a Warpig a good turn in the wrong hands!
