The Grondhogs were a great band, I saw them live many times.  I think Groundhog is from Blues Obituary - or perhaps Thank Christ for the Bomb.  If you like that, you should see if you can find Split, Cherry Red and Split pt 2 are my favourites off that.

I have all their stuff on vinyl, which is in storage at the moment until I can buy my country manor    No really I am having work done on the house and had to move things out for a while.  But the reason I can't tell you which album it is on is because they are not here.

I think he is playing slide on a Dobro on that one.  Of course this is just from memory and as I get older it is not as good as it used to be - I don't seem to remember any ugly women  8)

A dobro is a resonator guitar.  Listen to Dire Straits 'Tunnel of Love' or the Kinks 'Layla' for the same tone.  See the link below for more info

They were a great band. Perhaps you should raid your Dad's cd collection more often Sam.

I think that Split is the best album (it's the one that my old man had on the most anyway).  We went to see the original line up a few years ago because they reformed for a few gigs (I think that still play, just not the complete original line up).

Saw them at The Flowerpot n Derby.  I sent the lead singer, Tony McFee an email a wek or so before and asked him to say happy birthday to my old man when we were there...which he did.

3744 James Road is my favorite Groundhogs track....mmmm, might have to break that out when I get home from work tonight.

Easy on the Language Sambo

Pictured below is a wooden body dobro- some has chrome plated brass bodies

Basically the strings pass over the bridge which rests on a resonator cone, which is like a cross between a speaker cone and a car hubcap - made of thin aluminium. when the notes vibrate the cone resonates like a crude speaker and gives a rather distinctive tone- quite nasal and midrangy with a metallic clang to it.

Most Dobros have a single cone but some have 3 arranged in a triangle

The guitars are actually called resonator guitars - Dobro was/is a brand name that has become synonymous with the type of instrument - a bit like Hoover did with vacuum cleaners

Here's one that I'm currently building, it's all metal.  Once we've got the shape in the back sorted, then we'll be knocking them out in brass.

Sorry about the quality of the photos, they were taken in the semi dark on my mobile.

I hope that no one here considers this advertising, but if any of the mods feel that it s, or if it breaks the rules, I won't be offended if it's removed.

Here's the blokes site who I'm working with on the resonators.  His stuff is awesome. www.deltaresonatorguitars.co.uk The website is a bit out of date, but we're working on it.

Cheers mate,  we're on about the forth incarnation of it now.  We've got all the sides and the front all sorted, but we're currenly trying to get a really nice shape in the back.  The one in the photo was just an experiment but the back came out quite nice.  Also the one in the photo is built from metal that's too thick.

We're currently trying to make crysallising lacquer too, but it's not going too well.

I like the look of your guitars too, nice work.  Let me know if you ever need an engineer like my mate did with the reso's.  I've been pimping myself out to increase the guitar collection
