My Terrible Secret
« on: September 11, 2006, 09:44:31 AM »
I have something I've been hiding for years and now I just have to let it out.  I can't hold it in anymore!  Here it is:  Concerts bore me.

Sitting (or standing) and watching somone else play music is like being on school detention--even worse, it's like watching televised sports.

If I'm not playing I'm not interested.

There, I said it.  You can all mock me now.

:D Depends on who `ya see & how long there up there for. It also helps if they put on some kinda show.

Saw Rush last year & they were stunning but then they allways put on a show. Pagans Mind, Power Quest, Soliquay in march didn`t have the room to put on any type of show but the Venue was small so it was exciting & a lot more a personnal experience. But it is true that i do at some point look at my watch !  :P

Still a good live gig rules !

Most bands I get to see in bars can bore me or even agrivate me. Most of those bands play the same old sh!t as the rest and do it badly.

Now good live bands are another story. Metallica, AC/DC, Setzer, to name but a few, are totally amazing to watch.

I've also seen a U2 and a Rolling Stones coverband that were great.

Agreed.

When I went to see Janes Addiction, Thin Lizzy and Velvet Revolver they all put on a great show, the local gigs round here are shitee though, my mates always ask me to go to them but I refuse because I get bored of standing there listening to shite music

You sound jaded Searcher! Have you been to truck loads of gigs?

For me i just make the best of it, as I can't always get along to gigs when i want to.

Venue (for me) is a huge deal.
Getting older so the Hammersmith of my youth may not do it now.
One of the real things will miss from my place in Texas is a beautiful outdoor arena (not stadium, quite small really) where many big bands played. Was 10min. drive from house and in a 'bowl', wonderful! Will miss it ALOT

Yeah, you guys are likely right.  I've been to quite a few gigs, but most of them were small, unknown bands with absolutely no rapport with their audiences.  The one really good gig I went to was Tommy Emmnuel in a crammed basement club.  I wasn't even that much into his music--I went coz a flatmate invited me--but the guy was so entertaining and such a great muso that I really got into it.  Steve Vai was fairly entertaining as well, though I don't listen to his music all that often when I'm at home.

Maybe I need to see a few big, famous bands that I like.  The most popular guy I've seen has been--and I blame the wife for this one--John Mayer.  I really enjoyed about 15 minutes of the whole concert.  For the rest of the time my mind wandered and I couldn't wait to get out.

I firmly believe that a night out is what you make of it, if you go and over analyse everything - maybe the guitarist did $%&# up or the venue isn't great etc. - you will have a cr@p night. If, like me, you turn up with the sole intention of getting riotously intoxicated and dancing like a loon I guarantee* that you will at least have fun!  :D

I've blown up amps at gigs infact my lecturer at Universitys amp..

I've stepped on wah pedal on the front highest setting that wouldnt budge off and it stuck for half the gig on this horrible screeching setting, didnt realise.. the audience did though. thought my tone was a bit off.

Played a few songs out of tune..

bad stuff always happens to me on stage.. maybe your right.

Sounds like the gigs youre going to you arn't fun. I wouldn't bother going to see Steve Vai or other guitar shred because its not exactley concert music. Maybe if u went to see bands where u can rock out have a few beers u would have more fun.
I missed out on Whitesnake recently, totally gutted!
