Hmmm - I find it interesting in a way
I do find that i get really bored going to see bands that you have to see cos the guitarist is shite hot or some kind of virtuoso.
And nothing is worse than a Steve Vai type gig where the whole audience are guitarists all standing arms foldedtaking notes or waiting for the guitar god to screw up
I find however that going to see bands that I was really into BEFORE i started playing guitar is another matter- even if they were the bands that eventually made me start playing.
I have been to see bans like UFO , Scorions, Judas Priest , Queen, Whitesnake, Def Leppard, MSG, and all the magic and wonder of why I was so in love with the music flooded back and made me want to dance and leap around - just as i did as a teenager
But i generally prefer listening to songs that are great songs rather than just a vehicle for a solo
So I preferred Vai in Dave Lee Roth's band
George Lynch in Dokken
Michael Schenker in UFO or early MSG
Yngwie when he had Joe Lynn Turner singing
Zakk Wylde in Ozzy
John Sykes in Whitesnake (although Im equally keen on Moody & Marsden)
