ehm, how should I say, Yngwie has become kinda the laughing stock, but he can play some serious guitar too, as can be seen here:

The word contrived keeps on springing into my mind when I see him. Still wish I could play half as well though.

I wonder of it was one of his scalloped fingerboard guitars or an an regular one (I think I know which I would bet upon).

The phrase "Arnie sings Hendrix" sums up his vocal performance though ;)

Jimi Hendrix played it better, burnt it better and he was cool and not a fat knob-end - also strats don't break that easy and so clearly it was set up to do that!

Townsend could throw them in the air much higher and with more style, but he had the nerve to catch them on the way down.

+1, I actually enjoyed it, no matter how silly Yngwie looks.

That's the first time I've heard the Yng sing!

He's a phenomenal player, but I can never understand why a guy with all that talent is still so much in the shadow of his heroes.  He's been around for nearly 25 years but he's still playing Blackmore guitars and copying Blackmore stage moves (and he's worked with every Rainbow vocalist!).  The few things he hasn't ripped from Blackmore he's taken from Hendrix or Uli Roth.  Strange man.

It looks like he's also copied Blackmore's trick of using cheapo Strats for the encore, all ready to be smashed up.  They probably collected the parts afterwards to rebuild it for the next show.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

He switches the guitar for some cheapo for the song that he smashes it in. Does the same thing on that G3 dvd. Not a fan of his style but I respect the guy for playing the way HE wants to play. Unapologetically Yngwie.

pansy, that kinda defeats the whole idea of smashing a guitar onstage, it can't be planned .... unless it's the Who, then they kinda put some preparation into it :D:D

I had a situation where a customer smashed a guitar onstage at the Brixton academy (sopporting SOAD I think), in a drink/drugs/ adrenaline fuelled moment.

The trouble was it wasn't his guitar !
He had to bring it in for us to make a whole new neck for the Les Paul

He wasnt very popular with the guitars owner (the owner of the local rehearsal studio)

I read an interview with Frank Zappa t'other day, he liked YJM. So do I. He might be bloated, clearly exhibits signs of alcoholism and has a huge ego. Who cares, he can play. And as a strat/single coil convert nice to see someone not humbucking into the midrange.

man I love Yngwie. I can only listen for so long, but I appreciate a guy who isnt afraid to put on a show or be an artist, or have an ego! Someone has to do it!
