Is there a form of pedal addiction?

You could call it a type of "foot fetish"... :roll:

My pedal addiction lasted until about 5 minutes after I went onstage for my first gig - I was so focussed on the "tap dance" that I played like utter cr*p :lol:

These days I own 3 pedals (well, 4 of you count the spare Bad Horsie in my cupboard) & even that feels like too much :)

I own three, but one is more of a practice thing.... (a DS-1 for low volume distortion).    I usually just use one to two depending what amp I am using, a Vox wah and my Keeley Java Boost with my cleaner amps for more gain.

I thought it was a pretty well documented fact that TO is a keen HBE fan
He even had them make a special pedal for him - the Twilight Drive

However for clean boost I am sure that the Uno Mos or the Mos Dos will be favoured

I myself use two HBE pedals and find them very good- the Power Screamer and the Big D

I wish that all players would try gear blindfolded - using only their ears and hands to make choices

The amount of decisions that are made along the lines of : I like this player and he used brand X so I must also or I really hate that player because my mate/enemy likes him therefore I will hate the gear he uses also.

I'm not immune from that problem either even though I strive to be open minded

Very true, I also wish people would play guitars and amps blindfold. Bit too much 'logo' blindness at times.
And, how the heck are you truly gonna replicate your favourite band/players tone/sound? It's almost impossible really.

I remember reading Ted Nugent saying he played Eddie VH's rig (on tour as he liked EVH's tone), guess what, he sounded like Ted  :P

I remember reading the same story for EVH playing on Morello's rig, and guess what... he sounded like Eddie :P

Seems EVH loves sharing rigs, Steve Lukather said he playd EVHs gear and sounded like... Lukather!   So he then later recorded a whole album with Toto just using a marshall combo and still sounded like he was using his CAEs.

My playing has improved massively. I am utilising an instrument, rolling the volume on and off a lot more, adjusting the tone all the time, and adjusting my picking.

Many Strat players will agree, that a Strat brings out the best in a player. It forces you to work at the guitar, but the end result of learning touch sensitivity, dyamics and much more control stays on even when you go off to play other instruments. Every player should have the opportunity to play a good Strat for a few weeks at least, preferably own one.

I think what is being discussed is rather common. When players start they use all the gain they can coax out of their rigs. It's addictive stuff. But as you get older and start caring about how you sound you get more into articulation. Once you get away from the gain you find out how bad your playing sucks and you get serious about playing.

I also find I like brighter woods. I love ebony boards even though lots of people hate them.

I to find myself firmly planted in the strat camp, though I do love bridge humbuckers.

One final thing the players who tones I tend to want the most tend to not be very distorted ,Ty Tabor and Tom Morello are prime examples.

I'm not a die-hard strat player or anything (main guitar is a LP) and I agree with all of that, strats are great. Thing is I love playing my strat probably more than the LP, the only reason I dont play it as much is because it doesnt bloody stay in tune  :lol: It cuts better in the band aswell, with my setup the LP gets kinda lost.

BTW: Eddie can be seen  playing the frankencaster in the video for that porn movie he's financed and made out on the 5150 estate.

That's a whole new kettle of fish - the song sucks IMHO and I think Eddie is really losing his grip.

Locking tuners is the answer. I have two Strats one MM one USA, they almost never go out of tune. I will be putting Locking tuners on my SG too very soon; it's a project that will be receiving a Warpig in the bridge and Mirical Man in the neck.
