Wage Slave by All Shall Perish. Awesome blast beats and double pedal madness.

All shall perish are crazzzyy! I swear the lead guitarist use a 7 string but strung with a extra high string, for extra shred. Jeez.

RUSH

+1 on that. Believe it or not I had never heard any Rush until a friend leant me 2112 earlier this week. I have had Passage to Bangkok and The Twilight Zone going around in my head for hours today.
I think I hate being indecisive.

I'm still undecided on Rush. Sometimes I think they're great but then I get sick of Geddy Lee's voice and Lifesons tone

I've been on a bit of a thrash metal kick today, listening to Coroner - Semtex Revolution as we speak, the main riff sounds like a good rhythm guitar workout.

Any suggestion on which ones to listen to first Philly? There is a LOT to choose from!

Depends on what era of Rush you like. You can generally divide Rush's output into the following categories:

Early era, very big Zeppelin influence: Rush, Fly By Night, Caress Of Steel
(Ric bass, Slingerland/Ludwig drums, lots of fuzz tone guitar; very high singing!)

Progressive era: 2112, A Farewell To Kings, Hemispheres, Permanent Waves, Power Windows
(Expansive arrangements, some of their most technical material)

Synth era: Signals, Grace Under Pressure, Power Windows, Hold Your Fire
(Lots of great 80s synth tones, 'big '80s' production; change from Gibsons to Fender Strats, Marshall to Gallien Krueger amps)

Modern era: Presto, Roll The Bones, Counterparts, Test For Echo
(Strats, Signature guitars, and finally PRS guitars; very high end production value; shorter songs that feature a lot more social commentary)

Neo Peart era: Vapor Trails, Snakes & Arrows
(Albums made after Peart's recovery following the tragic loss of his family. Back to Les Pauls for Lifeson!)

What Ben said!  :D

My personal favourites are Permanent Waves (the first one I bought as a new release, back in 1980) and Moving Pictures (often regarded as their definitive album).

Rush are one of the very few bands who (IMO) have never released a by-the-numbers, treading-water kind of album, and after over 30 years their new stuff is absolutely as vital as ever.

My least favourite period was the mid/late 80s when Geddy was using a lot of synths - Grace Under Pressure, Power Windows, Hold Your Fire.  They started going back to a leaner, more guitar-based sound on Presto and Roll The Bones, but for me the real return to top form was Counterparts, which I love (I seem to be in a minority in regarding that particular album as a landmark, but whatever).

The other big thing to note with Rush is that they've punctuated each "phase" of their career with live albums - nowadays they seem to release a live set after every studio one!  The live albums are all well worth getting.

Cheers Philly and Ben. My first reaction was wow. My second reaction was c*ap as I realised that I will be losing a few months of my life just listening to Rush - your comments have helped me build a plan of attack though!!

But I'll be listening to me opening a beer in a matter of seconds.

Music wise though - In Rainbows, Radiohead
Advice worth what you just paid for it.
