Taking us away from horrid, spandex straining, cliche ridden 80's pomp nonsense.

I have Clutch - Blast Tyrant on.

Now THAT'S tone, played by big fat men with big beards  8)

+1, I love the tone on that album :)

No reason not to like both.  Clutch is my favourite (post 1970s) band, but I still listen to horrid, spandex straining, cliche ridden '80s pomp nonsense.

Anyway, High 'n' Dry had the spandex (everyone did in 1980) but not a trace of pomp.  It's just a stomping hard rock album.

I heard this ages ago, as such, my review is already formulated:

Do not waste your money on this abysmal record. It's everything bad about the trad/power metal traditions (which to be fair, IS pretty much EVERYTHING) in one glorius Spinal Tap-level arse-up. Hell, if you're the biggest Priest fan in the world you should be ambarrased that your favourite band have produced this tripe.

I think it's more than fair.

Def Leppard - High 'n' Dry

Main riff in 'Let it Go' = PURE TONE! I wonder what the rig is.

pure cutting edge up to date stuff! (ahem)

Def Leppard never sounded better

Mutt Lange produced this just after doing Back in Black and it shows
Both albums sound great - no nonsense good tones and kicking!

And I have no problems with Spandex!

I'd be embarrassed to be pedantic enough to pick out obvious typos.

I think it probably started out as ashamed

Nostradamus...

And I'm not in the least embarrassed  :D

Well done chaps!

I'm not really into "metal" as such, but Judas Priest was the second gig I ever went to, back in 1980, and I've had a soft spot for them ever since. Angel of Retribution was OK, but it's not the sort of thing I'd listen to very often.

But this little offering, I had to get it the moment it came out, and I'm enjoying it very much. (Still not embarrassed!)

I thought it was going to be a bit dire with a couple of OK songs. But I like it all. It's not quite up there with Tommy and Lamb Lies Down but I think they've actually pulled it off.

I have to admit though, if it wasn't the Priest, I'd think it was a load of old b*llocks and I'd put the Lynyrd Skynyrd back on...!

For me, it's mostly a mish-mash of oldies from my library and some recently downloaded stuff:

-Bartok: Violin Sonatas
-Liszt: piano concertos, etudes, hungarian rhapsodies, the lot!
-Unexpect: In a Flesh Aquarium
-Cult of Luna: Eternal Kingdom
-Bloodbath: The Wacken Carnage
-Flametal: Master of the Aire
-Textures: Silhouettes
-Quo Vadis: Defiant Imagination
-Scale the Summit: Monument
-John Zorn: 12 of the 100+ albums he's released :( can't find any more!
-Opeth: bits and pieces from the discography... seeing them in September!  \m/
-Farmakon: Robin
-To-Mera: discography
-Fantomas: discography

I thought you'd like that  :D

It is more a comment about my lack of open mind about some genres of music, though (or lack of time to investigate them) - I think I'm getting old  :?

I would definitely give it a go Phil.

Now playing, Unearth - the oncoming storm.

Guitars widdling a bit too much, not overly keen on the guitar tone, but on this record it's better than some of their others. Aside from that, superbly put together tracks, amazing drumming, I-WANT-THAT-SINGER vocals and otherwise, a thoroughly good listen!!

I've been listening to them recently too, and  I've been getting into Baroness' Red Album. Oh, and I seem to have a huge amount of Impellitteri on my iPod
