iron maiden - somewhere in time

for some reason, i thought this album was pretty cr@p when i first heard it. on reflection, theres some killer tunes on here, and also theres a cool sort of melancholic vibe through out the whole album.

I've been listening to Killers alot recently which is probably my favourite maiden album. Somewhere in time is one of my least favourite albums by maiden tho, I find it really boring for some reason.

Killers is cool.. I like the Paul D'Anno stuff as it has more of a raw punk edge to it. I don't think Killers is as good as it could have been - I have a cool full length bootleg of the Maiden Japan show - and its outstanding.

Worst Maiden albums are surely the Blaze Bailey period, and I'm not keen on Matter Of Life and Death - Dance of Death was far better IMO.

Might listen to that bootleg I mentioned tomorrow. I'm in a real Iron Maiden mood after seeing them last Saturday! Originally I wrote off Somewhere In Time, but I've given it another chance, and its been well worth it - don't think it will ever be favourite though.

I much prefer the Paul D'Anno Maiden albums to all the Dickinson ones (well, the ones I've heard). Less cheesy and just better!

I think the best maiden albums by far are Brave New World and Dance of Death. Most are good, but have songs which let them down, but DOD and BNW are albums I can just listen to start to finish and never get bored.

A Matter of life and death is alright, very repetitive with the songs following the same pattern each time...
Slow clean intro - Dirty impacting middle - Slow clean outro. When I saw them live last year they played the whole new album and to be frank I was a getting a little bored towards the end. Then they played the classics and it was like being hit by a sledgehammer of awesome.

You can't say that, it's completely uncool to like bands' recent albums.  You're supposed to like their early stuff, before they "went commercial"...

But I agree with you.  I think since Dickinson and Smith returned Maiden have been better than ever before (and I've always felt that Adrian Smith was Maiden's "secret weapon").  The arrangements they've come up with for the three guitars on the longer tracks are just brilliant.  Also agree that A Matter of Life and Death was a little disappointing.

I also think Brave New World was BRILLIANT, just plain superb tracks throughout, and yes, liking recent albums is definitely uncool, but BNW is a work of genius imo.

I think the current lineup is and always will be the best. When I was first getting in to guitar I had the whole of Rock in Rio audio on one mp3 track and I would just listen to it back to back, I think it has something like 26 plays(of the 2 hour track), it has an amazing mix of the classics and the BNW stuff, fantastic.

Speaking of disappointing new albums *Cough* Nostradamus *Cough*.
