tokyo tapes - scorpions

now to obsess about it for a bit: ;)

you know, since i found out about this album 6 months or so ago, its has rarely been more than a few days where i didn't listen to tracks from it. for me its the perfect combination of the more commercial hard rock sound the scorpions had later, and the hippy/krautrock sound from the 70s (particularly from uli of course). i'm also a sucker for a great live album and crowd interactions. some of the tracks are really emotionally touching of course, but theres straight forward rockers on it to. i prefer it to the studio albums of the roth period, since theres no studio trickery going on.

i love this album :D it hasn't influenced me too much on the technical level, of what notes the guys are actually playing, but the musical philosophy and passionate spirit is something unique and i think it has influenced me.

Nice one, gwEm. :)

It's just a shame they couldn't be bothered to fit the whole original album on the CD!

Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble live at the El Mocambo DVD.

The DVD sound quality and SRV's tone are all there. Yum.

Pearl Jam - Ten (one of my favourite albums of all time)

Just out of interest, Tom, do you also like the subsequent Pearl Jam albums?  I love Ten, but I think they went all abstract and a bit boring remarkably quickly after that.  I still bought the next few albums, but I gave up eventually and haven't bought any of the recent ones.

Yea I know what you mean, I love all of their albums but some of them can get abit boring. I was really impressed with their latest album actually as it seems to be abit more straight forward rock. Still not quite as good as ten but definitely worth a listen.

Have you got Stone Gossard's solo album, Bayleaf?  I love it to pieces, it's just brilliant. :)

Nah I haven't heard that, I'll have to try and buy it. Apparently most of ten originated from a cd of just instrumental songs written by stone gossard which was sent to eddie vedder and then the songs were made from there. You shud have a read of that article someone posted recently about pearl jam, its really interesting.

Edit: here it is http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=13505.0 its abit long but a good read

Indeed it is. Opeth haven't disappointed me yet... and I'm seeing them on the Watershed tour in September  8)

Yep, had that one ages now and really like it. Coil is probably my favourite actually which is odd considering its not really their typical style and has female vocals which I usually dislike.

The Kinks - 25 years ultimate collection. Pretty good, I'd never really listened to them past You Really Got Me and All Day and All Night but there are loads of good 'uns.

Hell yes!! There's so much more meat in his voice... they'd definitely be my favourite of the Thrash Big-4.
