The singer from that band (sam) used to play drums in the old band i was in. he's incredile. he was 17 at the time and totally amazing. like, seriously, he'd blow most pro's away. still, bullying him for being dead young was always fun! saw him for the first time in ages at their after show party in brighton. that was funny.

Deep Purple - Live in Japan

I got it over christmas and hadn't listened to it that much. 3 CDs with most of the 3 gigs that went into Made In Japan. Listening to the first Osaka night at the moment (none of these recordings made it onto MIJ)... put it through the studio monitors and turn it up - sounds DAMN FINE... (lot better than it did on our bedside multi-cd unit anyway )

Hmmm, I must get that.

Speaking of Deep Purple, the remastered Stormbringer is supposed to be out this month (at last!).  And a reissue of On The Wings Of A Russian Foxbat.

Now I've got "Rocky Hill" by Rocky Hill on (the brother of Dusty, ZZ Top bass-vocals).

I bought it in 88 when it came out, only listened to it a couple of times, didn't really like it that much back then. It's still not mind-blowing, but it's a lot tastier than I remembered - more bluesy than Dusty's band, and it beats the living cr@p out of "Afterburner" that I tried to listen to the other day

(Recently wired up a turntable - so I can hear all my old and crackly records... time for Wings Over America methinks...)
