Philly - I was thinking of getting God and Guns. Would you recommend it overall?

I find it quite enjoyable to listen to, but it is pretty cheesy.  The rockier tracks are good, the ballad/country ones less so!

Lynyrd Skynyrd 2009 are much more in the .38 Special/Molly Hatchet league than the Lynyrd Skynyrd 1977 league, if you see what I mean.

I heard 'still unbroken' on planet rock about 4 weeks ago, then later went on youtube trying to find out who the band was. Definately would not have guessed it was L.S!
Just bought the album anyway, I really do like that song.

I haven't listened to any AIC since Dirt, and that was when the album just came out but I took the plunge and bought Black Gives Way To Blue based on you guys' approval (is it a coincidence that it was released over here today??) and so far I'm really enjoying it.

Thanks lads!

No worries man, glad you're enjoying it!

Cheers Philly. I've had a listen to a few more tracks now - not bad stuff, but I see what you mean about being more in the Molly Hatchet league in some places. Still, there's some decent tunes there, from what I've heard so far.
Warpigs.

Lots of RHCP and Hendrix.
I think I hate being indecisive.

I'm never far from a Radiohead album and a healthy supply of Modest Mouse

I've been listening to LOADS of Rory Gallagher since getting my new strat.

But, the other day I heard of Joanne Shaw Taylor during some lunchtime web-surfing - her website: http://www.pigs-ear.biz/jst/index.html, don't look if you don't like bulbous bits (on geetars, wot did you fink I meant?).

Just found her album on spotify -  :o

 :) :D :P  8)

A 23 year-old white girl from Birmingham... and she can do this!

Listening to it now, yeah it's pretty good. Nothing stands out like the tracks on Riot! though.

Thanks for the tip AndyR. I just watched some videos of Joanne Shaw Taylor on youtube... she's really good... and just 23! She could really be something else in a few years. I like that she keeps her rig/sound nice and simple... telecaster, twin, tubescreamer, wah and a little compression as required. Her voice has a nice enough soulful sound but her guitar playing is better (IMHO). I'm no expert but although it still sounds a little rough round the edges to me, at 23, she's got plenty time to smooth it all out. Impressive young woman.

I've only listened to the album so far, and yes I agree - nice enough voice (will get better I think), but it's the guitar playing that makes the jaw drop... first of all it's someone only 23, and then it's a girl... one's preconceptions need readjustment!!
