Yep, I'm with you on the extra tracks thing. Originally we were being talked into getting the re-issue cos it's got extra tracks... but now... what a pain they are (when on the same disc as the original).
However, I'm still getting talked into getting a re-issue cos it's remastered... YUM!!!
But... I am beginning to suspect that, in many instances, the big knob marked "Volume" on the front of my stereo, when applied to the older CD, actually has the same sort of effect... sigh...
EDIT: Oh yeah, what have I been listening to...
Well it started off with Made In Japan (that has the extras on a second disc! Good boys...)(But they made the artwork black instead of gold... fools).
And it progressed from there to the "Live in Japan" 3 CD thing that has almost all of the three gigs - most interesting, I bought it out of curiosity some time ago, and never got round to studying the subtle nuances...
But I actually ended up in this Purple fest by having a few RJD nights myself - the first three Rainbow albums were on rotation for several nights. The missus had trouble sleeping to them though
(Why she can sleep to Made In Japan but not Rainbow Rising, I'll never figure out...)
