It never fails to amaze me how people keep giving Metallica credit, no matter what rubbish they release.
I mean, you can argue the two Load albums, but once they did St Anger everyone should have known they were taking the p!$$, no?

I've got everything except.... well, this Lulu thing, actually.

I personally like Load and Reload very much (although they could do with a bit of trimming), but St Anger was just horrific, no matter how they try to justify it.  And as a result, I don't trust them anymore, I suppose.

I saw Lars Ulrich and Lou Reed being interviewed by Jeremy Vine on the Andrew Marr show this morning.  Mr Reed seems like a...... difficult chap!  Very antagonistic, no matter how innocuous the question.  He seems to genuinely get on with Lars though.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

I think of load, reload and the black album for that matter the same way as Alien 3.

Alien 3 is a good film. If it had the meagre backstoty stuff cut out, and was presented as 'Alien' and alien and aliens didnt exist then it would be well enough received and respected. But it had to follow alien and aliens, and you cant cos they're utterly awesome. BA, Load and reload are like that.

St anger is just garbage and death magnetic is only liked at all because its not as terrible as st anger. Like alien resurection.

Pretty good analogy!

I still wish Alien 3 had been directed by Vincent Ward and had his "Wooden Monastery" concept.  Not sure where that would fit with the Metallica albums.  :?

Well, I've just watched the Lou Reed/Metallica thing on Jools Holland. What a total load of horse sh!t. I've rarely heard anything as shockingly bad as that. I really don't understand how Jools Holland got himself through it and even gave a little praise to it. If it were my show I'd have pulled the mains out and blamed it on a power-cut.

Just watched it after reading your commont and my God it's DROSS! Terrible.  PDT_039 PDT_038

I don't know the last megadeth album was worse that risk!

I actually listened Lulu from start to finish... it was a painful experience with the 16 minute long songs.

But it kinda makes sense if you hear it all just one song doesnt really give off a good impression.

It is however terrible musically, sick & twisted lyrically and just downright disgusting and sexist

What, the current one, Thirteen or whatever it's called?

Haven't heard it yet, didn't like the one before that and I haven't much enjoyed the last few - they're not bad but it doesn't feel like a proper band anymore (not since Risk, in fact!)

yeah Thirteen.

The last one at least had some good riffs on.

The sorry part about thirteen is that the best two songs on the album are old demos that have been completed from when Marty was in the band only now they have brodericks mindless shreddy solos on to ruin them.

I quite enjoyed the system has failed even thought that was originally written as a solo project.

UA was a bit dull but had a few memorable songs on it

Love this "Lou Reed & Metallica Lulu in 5 minutes"

"I am the table" will be on Hetfields tombstone.

That is genius, a few laugh out loud moments for me - "I am the table" being one of them and "Spermless like a girl" another.

This made me laugh as well:

Reviewer Julian Marszalek of The Quietus gave the album a very poor review. He commented that "the effect is that of Lou Reed ranting over some Metallica demos that were never intended for human consumption." Marszalek summarized the review by suggesting that time spent listening to Lulu could have been better spent watching grass grow, "or perhaps w@nking into a sock."

I quite like Th1rt3en. My only complaint is that it could use a couple more faster tracks.

I actually like the basic idea of "Lulu". They just got the wrong folks to make it, unfortunately.

The basic concept could easily become something very, very cool in the right hands. In my little dream world, that album would have been made by someone like Tom Waits cooperating with Neurosis, Khanate or Sunn O))).

But, that's a pipe dream if there ever was one :/

Well, at least Tom Waits is still producing great music. I may be biased here in that I love Tom Waits and think that Lou Reed is an absolute tool who has been dining out for years on the few decent Velvet Underground tracks that there were.

I'm inclined to agree. When it comes to portraying the dark underbelly of life and life in the city, I honestly don't think anyone comes close to ol' Tom.

Chickenfoot III.

I like. Feels more mature than the first one.
