Recently I have mostly been listening to minimalist NY classical grouping Bang On A Can.

Happened upon a YouTube video about them and loved it so bought some stuff (Classics & Music For Airports - Live).

I feel kind out place on here! I have been checking out some of the Djent, doom, grindcore, etc stuff. And I thought the stuff I liked was obscure!
The older I get, the better I used to be....

Concrete jungle by Bob Marley. God, it's tedious. I just don't get it.

I've been checking out the most recent Asphyx album ('Deathhammer') and the album by Grand Supreme Blood Court (which basically consists of a number of current and former Asphyx members and members of related band Hail of Bullets, including the 'classic' Asphyx guitarist Eric Daniels) in my car sound system.  Very enjoyable old school death metal.

Michael Monroe: Horns & Halos.  New album, just arrived yesterday.  The last one was mostly written by Ginger, and sounded kind of like a Wildhearts record, this one has Dregen writing and on guitar, and does indeed sound kinda like a Backyard Babies album!  in both cases, this is no bad thing :)  I'm quite enjoying it so far

I never liked Michael Monroe or Hanoi Rocks, but you've reminded me that I really loved Backyard Babies for a while.  Haven't listened to them for years!

Yeah, I always found Hanoi Rocks frustrating, you'd get a brilliant song surrounded by mediocre ones, and they would all sound like they'd been recorded and produced by different bands at different times!  they actually remind me of the Stones.

Michael's solo albums are a lot more consistent, and I've enjoyed the ones I've heard.  He does seem to be a bit marmite though, people seem to either love or absolutely loath his voice

Hanoi Rocks fall into that "rock'n'roll", as opposed to "rock" category for me, along with the likes of the Quireboys, Dogs D'Amour, even the Black Crowes to an extent.  Definitely a Stones, Chuck Berry etc influence, and there's always the horrible lurking threat that, instead of hearty powerchords, your ears may be assaulted by some honky-tonk piano or (shudder) saxophone.  :x

All those bands have songs I like, but too many I don't like, I'm afraid.

Baroness - Yellow & Green

Why haven't I listened to this more since I bought it?  It's really good.

Reeves Gabrels/David Tronzo - Night In Amnesia.

Weird as f*ck, interesting, generally out of tune.

Love it.
