Yes, Yngwie era Alcatrazz was amazing! I love the proto versions of the songs that would later appear on the first Rising Force album.

I also much prefer his tone from Alcatrazz to Marching Out. It started going off the rails w Trilogy and never quite got back to that standard, though I do like his tone on the orchestral album.

I've been having fun exploring the "Related Artists" links in Spotify.

I found some things I'd been considering buying which turned out to be not so great.  I found some terrible cack.  But last night I was listening to a terrfic Swedish band called Siena Root - very '70s-influenced bluesy, psychedelic, hippy heavy rock.

Been listening to Volbeat just about every day for the past year. Incredible at mixing country, rockabilly and metal.
Well worth a listen. Especially Beyond Hell/Above Heaven.
Saw them in Birmingham with Iced Earth supporting. There was a guest appearance from Barney from Napalm Death which was pretty cool.

Ultravox - Brilliant.

This came out a couple of years ago after a break of twenty odd years.  I'm surprised I missed it, as I love Midge Ure and Ultravox.

It's a good album - the old sound is there, very interesting songs, great overall feel to it.
BKPs Past and Present - Nailbombs, Mules, Blackguard Flat 50's, VHII's & Trilogy Suite with Neck & Bridge Baseplates!

IŽve been listening to some John Mayer lately. I kinda enjoy the more pop oriented stuff, but mostly I dig his blues work, especially the way he plays solos. There are some lovely singing notes there. The stuff he brings out for "Gravity" is really cool. He can write some pretty great songs too. At his best he brings in a nice combination of blues and pop with good compositional depth I think. Not all great, but I really love a good bit of his work, which is pretty diverse. Not just that "Body is a Wonderland"-tw@t anymore.

"Slow dancing in a burning room" is currently my favorite track to play.

I only have two studio albums of his to be fair. Both of which are more of the pop stuff. I will however start listening to "Where the Light is - Live from LA" these days. From the youtube videos I have seen of that it might be the best starting point. Full range of styles, more solo indulgence than with the studio work, nicer arrangements, etc.
Starts of with an acoustic part, goes into John Mayer Trio stuff (especially bluesy) and ends with a full band set. IŽll have to see how the thing feels as a whole, but it could very well be the best.

Fine.. I'll take the plunge first:

Yngwie Malmsteen "Odyssey"

Even though we've lost all the posts since March, I've been listening to the same things for the whole of that period - lots of (melodic) stoner/doom/psychedelic rock.  That's all I'm really into at the moment.  And in particular, I've been listening to:

Mount Salem - Endless

Love it to bits!

Andy Timmons Band - Resolution
In Flames - Come Clarity
Racer X - Technical Difficulties

Trying to use technical difficulties as a song to learn that also serves as a great technique builder
(Far too advanced, but I feel that it can be done eventually)
Formerly "ManOnTheEdge"

Been enjoying the new Yes single, which is available as a download when you preorder the new album. Their new singer is great, though the single reminds me an AWFUL lot of "Circus Of Heaven"...

The new Mastodon album Once More Round The Sun is brilliant. Cannot wait to go see em live in November. Chimes at Midnight and The Motherload are the stand out tracks for me. The only one I'm not too keen on is the last track, just a bit slow paced.
