i finally got to listen to the dvd-audio disc of the Beatles: Love.
WOW! it's incredible how good this sounds, it really shows the fidelity achievable with skilled recording engineers and good quality tape and machinery, from back in the days when things were over-engineered rather than designed to fall apart after four years! of course, the actual music is more important than the recording quality, and for me that is beyond reproach. the Beatles are simply the most consistently brilliant band i can think of. many people these days argue against their importance and even their quality, but i think anyone that looks objectively at the evolution of "popular" music will have little doubt just how vital their contribution was.
Phew! got a bit heavy there! anyway, point is it's bloody brilliant! well worth buying i think.
also still listening to my recent staple diet of Monster Magnet, The Flaming Lips, Steve Vai and Juliette and the Licks. oh and last night i gave The Donnas: Gold Medal a spin, i'd forgotten how good that was! shame to hear they've been dumped by their label.
