NEED ADVICE ON PICKUP CHOICE?

:?:

OK, HERES MY DEAL

I'M HAVING A CUSTIM GUITAR MADE BY GIBSON,

BASICLY ITS A FIREBIRD STUDIO MEETS THE FIREBIRD VII, ITS GOING TO HAVE DUAL FULL SIZED HUMBUCKERS.  NOW HERES THE COOL PART AFTER YEARS OF PLAYING SEYMOUR DUNCANS I HAVE DECIDED TO PUT BK IN THIS GUITAR, I PLAY MOST HIGH GAIN BLUES ROCK WITH HEAVY TO HARD ROCK EVERY ONCE IN A GREAT WHILE. I PLAY WITH A FULL BAND WITH KEYS AND ALL. I NEED SOMETHING THAT WILL REALLY CUT THROUGH THE MIX. WHAT I WANT IS ALMOST LIKE A SUPER HOTT PAF, OR SOMETHING THAT IS MORE MODERN AND STILL HAS THAT PAF FLAVOR AND FEEL TO IT.

THE BODY AND NECK OF THIS GUITAR WILL BE MAHOGANY AND A ROSEWOOD FINGER BOARD

THANKS FOR ANY SUGESTIONS

DO YOU THINK THE REBELL YELLS MIGHT BE IN THE BALL PARK OF WHAT I WANT?

Yep, welcome!

With all that Mahogany, I'd go Rebel Yells to give it some bite.

Oooooh Firebirds,

I think Dakine got it right with eith the Rebel Yell or even the Mule.

A Missippi queen might make the neck position interesting too.

Would a Rebel Yell in the bridge with a mule in the neck work pretty well together? It's a combination i've been considering for my new les paul...
Pretty versatile 8)

You know i kinda like that idea, a Rebell Yell in the bridge and a Mule in the neck position, i wonder what that would sound like, lots of tonal opitions i would think

I think this combo would pretty much rule the '80s hard rock. You'd get billy idol, motley crue etc. from the bridge position and guns'n'roses etc. from the neck position. Obviously both of these pickups are far more versatile than this and will cover pretty much any other base very well between them...
I'd say they should balance fine aswell. Well, i think i may have made up my mind :P

What you need is a Crawler set. It totally does what you described in your post. It's designed to do high gain blues rock, it truly IS a hotrodded PAF.

I used to play in a full band with keys and everything. The Crawlers  cut through the mix like nothing else.

I'm with Ratrod -- based on the requirements, it sounds like the Crawlers could be just the thing.  If not, then the Rebel Yells.

bhodge5:

Based on my own experience with Crawlers in an all-mahogany Carvin CT3, I'd be a little careful with this choice in all mahog guitar. I've found the combination to be pretty fat. Not that it doesn't have highs, and not that they don't sound sweet, but the lower end dominates. In my combination at least, this would not give you the cut you indicated you wanted. To further qualify my conditions of use, I'm using a Rivera combo that has EL34's in it.

Something like a Crawler or Mule in the neck with something a bit brighter in the bridge (RY?) sounds pretty intriguing, though.

As usual, best to call or email Tim and have a detailed discussion of what you want, what amp you're using, etc.
