Can anyone recommend some home recording software?  Just a program to install on the computer that lets you manipulate sound files and such, for overdubbing and adding effects.

There are tonnes of programs available!

Try searching "M-Audio" for a low cost, high quality solution which is good for simple recoring projects.

Sonar, Pro Tools, Cubase, and Digital Performer for more advanced solutions.

For basic recordings you cant go wrong with Audacity:

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Really easy to use and can get good results with it!

Software, not hardware... but yeah M-Audio is great for cheap recording sound cards.... definitely cannot go wrong there.

I suggest Cubase or Wavelabs... I'm more of a Wavelabs kind of guy myself...

Thanks for the feedback, I'll check them out.  I'm getting a set of Mother's Milk pups as soon as I start work, so there should be some soundclips up soon.  (I hope)  :drink:

PC.
By the way, I downloaded Audacity and really like it.  The microphone on my laptop sucks though.  Good thing I wasn't expecting any better.
