Black Dog Clip - Well An Attempt Anyway!

Here's my attempt at demonstrating my Tokai with it's Black Dog's. Recorded using Cubase and a PODxt, using the HiWatt amp model, Vintage 30 4x12 cab model and the RAT pedal model.

Sorry, it's another "high gain" clip. ;)

Rhythm tracks are all bridge pickup, lead/harmony tracks are all neck pickup.

That's some pretty heavy Dogs :twisted:  and I love the way the bass pops up in the mix at the end!  Cool.

FWIW the bass used was a Standard Fender Mex Jazz through the PODxt, again using the HiWatt and Vintage 30 4x12 cab models.

Yeah, it just stands out nicely as the guitar fades :)

Is that the "bass PODxt" or the "regular (guitar) PODxt"?  Or does the current POD include sims for both guitar and bass?  I heard pretty good things about the POD (though possibly the xt version wasn't out when I was last looking), but balked at the apparent necessity to get one unit for bass and one for guitar, when what I really want is one unit to do both -- it's all software, after all!  Still, my Sansamp GT2 is aimed at guitar, but works pretty well for bass, so maybe the current POD software sims are the same way ....

Not sure about Skybone but I have used a Bass through a normal Guitar PodXT, there are amp models that are essentially bass amps anyway (Bassman, Marshall Super Bass, a few others...) but it works fine on most of the cleaner amps for me.

I use just a regular (Guitar) PODxt for both guitar & bass, there's stuff for acoustic's on there, and some have even used it as a vocal pre-amp. I tried a Bass V-Amp 2 a while back (basically to get an SVT with an 8x10 cab singing), but I was amazingly non-plussed about it's tones.

All I did was find an amp model that's nice & beefy (like a Plexi or the HiWatt, or even a Fender BassMan), choose a cab (I like 4x12's for bass, though there's a 4x10 and a 1x15 cab on the regular PODxt), dial in a nice tone, be it clean or slightly driven and away you go. If it sounds good to you, then work with it!

It's a really versatile little tool, with some really nice tones available to those who twiddle!

Yeah, I had thought about the bass V-amp 2 as well, though the guitarist in the band I play with has a V-amp 1 and I wasn't too bowled over by it, so I passed on the V-amp side of things -- and the whole digital side of things -- for analogue Sansamp action. But I do keep hearing good stuff about the newer PODs, and though I've got some other things on my musical shopping list (BKPs, f'r instance!) I may have to look at PODs again in the coming year or so.  I like the built-in USB interface (definitely not on my guitarist's old V-amp) and the fact that the editing software exists for OS X (I'm a Mac dude).

Your clip sure sounds good, that's for sure! :)
