Joe Bonamassa

I saw Joe Bonamassa in Frome last night, what a great gig!
The evening started well, as I'd happily have paid to see the support band. They were a Manchester blues rock outfit called Stone Sole River , kind of 2 parts Led Zep, 1 part Pearl Jam and a sprinkling of Eagles and Skynard. They absolutely rocked! Exactly the kind of riff heavy, groove laden hard rock I love  :D
Then Joe came on and he was astonishing. He's even faster live than he is on record  :o It wasn't just his speed that was astounding though, his mastery of dynamics was truly inspiring.
His lead lines were obviously spectacular, but what really blew me away was his acoustic playing, I'd genuinely never seen anything like it.
The other surprise was how hard he rocked! Obviously half the set was straight blues, but the other half was really high energy blues rock, and his closing number was full on metal, complete with sprawling shred solos and Tom Morello style sonic experimentation
Needless to say I went home happy  :)

Thanks Man! I got some tickets for 11/9 at the Ridgefield Playhouse in CT. It's close to my brothers house and he'll be going with me; he's a player too. However, his gear is all stock and mine is all mod'd except for a Gibson CS 346, but that may get some BK's too.

I like the way he rocks out and acknowledges his rock influences.  I hope he doesn't change that, there are enough blues purists in the world already.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

On the JB website the dates are Oct 24th for BB Kings and Oct 26th for the Ridgefield Playhouse - he's in the UK in early November - have you guys been at my beer again

Very true 2006 was a very different time. However, that was a great show, He was actually openning for Dr. John. Bonamassa was great! As for Dr. John; well I'll just be kind and say I left before his show was through.

It shows how long this thread has been going!!   Think I'm going to see him at BB's on the 24th (there's a group of us and we all know how hard organising a group is).

I saw Joe Bonamassa at BB Kings last night and he smoked!! The show was great - the place was packed out and he gave a great show.  He played mainly Les Pauls (at least 3, one JB Goldtop, one sunburst and one goldtop with Bigsby), the gutiar he started with looked like a music man (with a 4 & 2) headstock and at one time he was playing what looked like  a lap steel put into a regular body so you could play it standing.  He was also using a theramin for effects.  The sound was pretty good for a live event and he played some great acoustic stuff too.  If you haven't seen him and you get chance, go for it.
