I was wondering if someone, or at least a professional, can tell the difference between a neck and bridge humbucker. I just dropped off my guitar and my new bridge RY humbucker at a local guitar shop and forgot to tell the guy where I wanted it.

I know I could just call the store but I don't want that awkward "yeah, you can just look at it... IDIOT!" moment. I mean it's bad enough that I didn't know what he was talking about when he said Billy Idol...

I dont think it says in the instructions or anything, but I think the bridge bareknuckles have a red dot on the side or something like that. Could be wrong though.

They will have different DC resistances. The bridge is the higher one.

He'll be able to tell - The screw coil goes towards the bridge, and the wires come out of the bottom left corner (on all pickups I've used anyway :P)

And he'll probably check it with a meter first to make sure it's giving the right sort of resistance or whatever - and does it say in the packaging too?

:lol: Short answer is: Yes, he can probably tell...also, if you're only gonna change one pickup it's usually the bridge one from my experience :drink:

EDIT: And if he DOES get it wrong, you can always go back and say "I told you to put it in the bridge!!!!" - chances are he won't remember and would just change it for you

On BK humbuckers the logo on the baseplate reads as if the bridge were an underline. In other words when you look at the bottom of a bridge humbucker 'Bare Knuckle Pickups' will be the right way up with the screw coil nearest you. On a neck Humbucker it will be the right way up with the screw coil away from you.

Usually they also have a tag on the wire which says 'bridge' or 'neck'.

My Holy Diver didn't have a "tag" although it was part of an HSS Set so it was kinda obviously a bridge pickup :P

The neck single coil had a sticker on the bottom of it with "NECK" on it though...

from what i remember my warpig had Bridge written on it.

Well I swallowed my pride and called to let them know. He told me it'll be done by Tuesday :(

I was looking at the hours of the shop. On a Saturday it was from 10am to 4pm. Even my shifts at work are longer than that! They're not even open on Sundays... Lazy bums..

haha, probably shoulda gave it a go yourself first! The first ever time I tried soldering was when installing my Bareknuckles and the bridge one worked first time, neck ground wire just wouldnt stick to the back of the pot though :x
