what happened in 1987 guitar history?

1987?  Birth of the Ibanez Jem and RG550.  I have two '87 (or possibly '88 ) RG550s in Road Flare Red  :D

i'm 31, but like everyone else i feel a lot younger...most of the time!  on sunday mornings i sometimes feel about 81!

i'm actually finally doing the things i should have done in my early twenties, but which circumstances never allowed, so i think i'll just stay in my twenties for a few more years, time's an abstract concept anyway!

I'm 24, but I might as well be the youngest one here... I mean I've been alive for 24 years and still haven't done anything with my life...

Hey man, ditto.  Use the next 18 years wisely (or not so wisely!) so you're not in the same position at 42.

At 47 I guess I fit in with the more Classic crowd. My wife thinks I too am trying to relive my youth -  I say "Long live Rock & Roll".

Just taking your advice Rob - 1989 doesn't appear to have been a great year for guitar building :P I'll hunt one down eventually :drink:

How arrogant do I look quoting myself

Just had a quick browse of the Vintage and Rare site, and I can have either a Gibson Lucille, or a Fender MIJ 12 String Strat...Hmm

'89?  I'd buy a Jem or RG Ibanez.  Maybe a Jackson or Charvel if you're feeling flush!  Classic guitars from that period.

Yeah, I was thinking of those, as that's what the "era" was all about really - but they're not my thing...I won't bother with it tbh, I'm gonna get the Legra and then I'm gonna get an Ibanez Artcore i reckon (with Crawlers and Stormy Mondays respectively of course)

Now a Lucille sounds like a pretty classy choice to me :)

For 12 srings 1989 was a good year as the Roger McGuinn sig model was released sig model (less than 1000 made) prices are leaping up now :(
It was also the year this was built http://homer.netmar.com/~muscon2/r303.jpg I love double necks and almost bought a shergold bass & 12 about a month ago

The 12 string strats play pretty nice though and are pretty affordable (lets see what pickup Tim would recomend for that :) )

If you play bass too theres this : @ http://www.newkingsroadguitars.co.uk/basses.htm

(B157) 1989 Fender Jazz bass, USA made, classic sunburst with rosewood neck and white pickguard. original case.£599
