What p'up?
« on: October 09, 2006, 09:23:53 PM »
Hello. I'm new to these forums as you see, this is because I just recently discovered bareknucklepickups, and now I want one really bad  :D The only question is this: Which model? I have a modded Charvel model 3 that it's going to wind up in, with OFR, and all that good shite.... Anyways, i mostly play metal and hard rock (Ozzy, VH, Skid Row, Pantera, and such). My amp is an ENGL Screamer combo.... What pickup would best fit me? (bareknuckle of course!  :D ) I've been thinking about either the Nailbomb, or the Warpig, but I'm slightly leaning towards the Nailbomb at the moment. Any tips? Thank you!  8)

Well, the Nailbomb and the Warpig are completely different animals - I'd be inclined to consider a Miracle Man...

But then you say VH as well, which maybe you'd want something closer to the NB

TBH I don't have a clue what I'm on about with the high gain BKPs (except the Holy Diver, but that's not what you're after)...Check out the "Players" forum and listen to the clips and see what comes up :drink:

Why? Is it my strange need to try and help people, even though I have absolutely no useful information at all? I dont understand it myself tbh, but if there's no replies to a topic I feel sorry for the person that started it, and try to say something to them

For the hard rock stuff, I'd think a Holy Diver.... or maybe a VHII for the Van Halen tones...  for the heavier stuff (or the best mix between both) I think a Nailbomb is what you're after.
Real men turn their volume to 11!

Rebel Yells + Les Paul = the Ultimate Rock Pickup.

When Ozzy comes up I tend to think Warpig aswell, but then again that could be because its a Sabbath song

nailbomb, its sweet enough to cover the vh tones but also aggressive enough to do the heavy stuff was playing a nailbomb today and its sweet, wouldnt choose that over my vh2 myself but id say its more your thing

Thanks alot for the pointer guys! I'll definitely consider some of the other models as well, but the nailbomb is still what attracts me the most....  :P

ok, will chime in.
I own an Engl Screamer 1/2 stack it is can be a pretty darkish amp.
I own Warpig/Custom Warpig and think for the sounds you are saying they are not your ideal pup.
I do not have a Nailbomb so will refrain from telling ya about somthing I can only hear in clips just as you.
Miracle Man comes to mind however as another poss. listening to clips/comments here.

Yeah, I've listened to some clips, and I'll def. check some more out before i decide... After all, the guitar it's going into ain't nowhere near finished yet, so I'm not in a hurry! Darkish you say?  :? My ENGL is quite trebly actually.... I keep the treble at 9-10 o'clock, and the presence at about the same... If i set them anywhere near 12 o'clock, it's way to bright-sounding! Is that normal? lol... a bit OT though

oops,
kinda forget as it's always there.
I have a 10 band EQ in my loop permanently on when the amp is :)
Anyway, same answer, imo either pig is not ideal for the tones you mention :)

(keep my EQ dark like me coffee I guess;)).

I guess a warpig is just fine in a charvel+ENGL. I am rather fond of that pickup by the way in that setting. In a les paul the warpig is just TOO much; too warm, too saturated (eventhough that might not be the right term). just my €0.02 :)

What EQ-pedal do you use, Dakine? Is there a big difference in the sound? What kind of curve do you use on it?
