I just got these guys first album, and I must say its prob the single best piece of musical recording I have ever heard. The guitar tone is SOOOO heavy it is unbelievable. I kno the Guitar player / Singer Jus Osbourne plays an SG tuned to C but I have no clue as to what kind of amp he played through for these recordings. The distortion is so crushing and brutal that ive pretty much become obssesed with doing whatever I can to get it for myself :]. However I just dont have the slightest clue as to what kind of amp he might have used. I kno they are kind of an obscure band but If anyone has any info as to what kind of set-up they got please do share.

Check out some of the videos on youtube. Looks like a Mesa rectifier behind him.

ha, they are down road from me it seem's. Darn been away so long!

Anywhoo, a Mesa Rectifier. Looks alot like mine therefore prob. a single rectifier perhaps.

Less that is another guitarist in band. NOT knowing much about em. But DEF. a Mesa Recto onstage behind singer/guitarist.

The Dopethrone setup was as follows:

Soundcity 120w Head
Boss Hyper-Fuzz ( Fuzz II mode is the secret weapon to the EW sound!!)
Gibson SG's

Most recent time I have seen them w/Cathedral they were using Marshall Heads.

-I`m also sure that for Dopethrone/Let us Prey/We live/Come My Fanatics they tuned down to Bb.

And they have absolutely blown me away live when Iv'e seen em. It's all in the low-end!

Every time I've seen them, and every pic I've seen of them playing, he's been using JCM800's. Just because there's a Recto onstage, doesn't mean that it's in use by the band that's currently on stage. Also depends on where the gig was.

indeed it does (have played enough gigs like that myself).
I do NOT know about the band.
Just saw in that clip a Recto behind the singer/guitarist and thought the tone sounded right, thats ALL.

What the guy above said. I had a Boss FZ-2 and it nailed Electric Wizard's fuzz tone.

^ I realy dont like their "Fuzzy" tone liike from Come My Fanatics on. Its realy just that first album that blows me away. I think it prob a recto, just sorta has that character.

If you're talking about the self-titled album I don't have that one so I'm not that much help. The earliest I have is Come My Fanatics.

That said, alot of Electric Wizard's heaviness comes from the bass. They mix it really far forward and it tends to be heavily overdriven so it sounds more like low tuned guitar.....that might be what you're hearing.

yeh their first album has a realy different sound from their later ones. I can tell they definitley double track the guitars and that adds alot of heaviness to the sound and yes, the bass is quite prominent in the mix aswell so its prob a combination of things that gives the recordings "That sound". What kind of amp does he run the fuzz box into?

A Soundcity, which if I remember correctly is pretty similar to either a Plexi or a Hiwatt (I can't remember which one).
