DHA Effects VT2 Fatguts - Custom Demo and Review
« on: October 18, 2006, 04:45:50 AM »
Just got it about three days ago. Am not too impressed with the overall tone and I can honestly say I enjoy the tone of my Marshall MG100DFX much better. The gain is very loose and not very good for my style of music and I am afraid this is in part a fault of my own as I probably should have inquired more into this when I was ordering. But,whatever, I have it now.I should go ahead and forwarn you who dont already know; I am a complete Sab nut aadn therefor I tend to play a lot of Iommi riffs in my improvisations, and as this is just that, youre prob gonna hear a bunch of rather obscure sab riffs that showcase my playing more than they do the actual pedal. The guitar is tuned to C (I usualy tune to C# but lately ive become somewhat obsessed with Electric Wizard so...) and the strings are D'addario XLS540's (53, 42, 32 etc... i think) for a deep but punchy bottom end which unfortunately doesnt come through to well with the voicing of this pedal. I dont want to bash Dave at DHa for making a bad product or anything, becayse its not a BAD pedal, its just not for me i don think. It does have an awful lot of microphonics and feedback issues though. Anyways, judge for yourself and please tell me what ya think. Oh yah; im using an epipphone G400 custom with stock P/u's and Il bet If I had the triple warpig set ive been dreaming of it would realy bring this pedal to life. Oh yah, and I aplologize for the slopp playing but I hadent played electric guitar in like a week so...

:D Thanks for that man !

It sounds very bottomy [ this could be because you D tuned so much ] But to be fare if your a Sabbath junkie this sounds like its right up your street. It seems to have more of a Growl to it. I bet if you had a set of Pigs in your guitar it`d sound a lot clearer.

God I could do with a Gin & Tonic !

Well I use big stainless steel strings to compensate for the detuning which seems to help with the Marshall, but runnning into the fatguts, despite all the different switches I have in it for added brightness (germanium clip, treble boost, tone pot), it doesnt seem to help much at all. Maybe its just that the marshall naturaly has a brighter more chunky voicing and that compenstaes for what the guitar lacks in pups and brightness. If warpigs will realy bring this thing to life then Il prob just keep it and wait til I can afford some Pigs.

I actually thought it sounded pretty good on some bits, mostly the lead, it sounded like it has a pretty good crunch and articulation for lead. Rhythm sounded a bit muddy though but thats probably due to the detuning I'm guessing.
