Before I go and order the Laney..
« on: October 25, 2006, 10:48:13 PM »
Is there anything else in the same price range (£400) that can do all the tones I want - The classic British crunch - ACDC, Zeppelin live, Thin Lizzy etc style, but also able to do that awesome higher gain British sound such as Lynch, Maiden, GnR, Whitesnake etc and up to perhaps Gamma Ray levels of gain with a boost (though I'm more interested in the other stuff)?

Seems like a GH50L can do all that from what I've read/heard but I just dont want to order then find I coulda got something else that may sound better for what I want.

I will be running the head into my 2x12 eminence loaded cab, it sounds really nice, warm with my Fender so I can imagine a nice head will also sound great through it.

Cheers for any help.

There's nothing else I can think of in that price range that would fit the bill, except maybe a 900 series Marshall.  The Laney seems like a better option to me though...

Well, I tried a dual channel reverb 900 before (theres one in the studio we practise in) through a 1960s cab and it sounded awful, so I dont think I'll be goin for a 900

Didn't think you would  ;)

I'm guessing you want a proper amp, not a modeller, so there ain't much left in that price bracket to go for I don't think...

Yep, none of that modeller rubbish :P

I was pretty much sure I want a GH50L anyway, just checking really as I couldnt see anything else in the price range.

For that budget, you can't go wrong with the GH50L.

Who needs more than one channel anyway? ;)

Looks like I'll be ordering the Laney soon then :D

I was hoping to kinda simplify my setup a bit for taking to and from band practise/gigs. I dont really want to carry loadsa pedals, just a wah and tuner!

I'm not exactly carrying loads at the minute, only 1 or 2 extra in fact, but its a pain in the arse even tho I have a pedalboard I have to try fitting all my cables etc in that, I'd much rather just have a bag with the pedals in and throw it all in there

You could boost it up with a HBE Dos Mos! You would definitely be cooking on gas with one of those in your set up Tom!

Your choice of amp sounds great Tom. If you've tried one with your guitar and it gives you the silly grin factor, then you have found the amp for you dude!  :D

It's all technique Tom!    Hang things from arms and neck under elbows and of course your hands. When I did some premier league football work with my camera a few years back, I had to drive and then yomp 2 miles with a back pack full of kit and a big heavy lens flight case. Huffin' and a puffin' and leaking like a leaky leaker in a monsoon! Yeuk!

For stuff smaller than a 4X12 (or a combo) try the gear grip stuff here

I have a couple of sad mates that take monster PCs and 20" CRTs to LAN parties.
