Hello,

I just ordered an Ibanez RG1527 Prestige seven string guitar for a great price of $750 but am afraid that the pickups are terrible. I was nearly set on Dimarzio pickups for quite a while until I stumbled onto Bare Knuckle Pickups while reading an interview with Chris Broderick on SevenString.org. Anyway, I've been reading and listening to many clips of BKP's in the Players section of the forums and I must say these things sound incredible. They are also VERY expensive... the most expensive pickups I've ever seen before. Fortunately however, I'm sure I'll be able to get a set for Christmas in a couple of months. I play in a local band with a few of my school friends and we play very heavy "hardcore" or "metalcore". The tone we get is pretty similar to a band called August Burns Red (www.myspace.com/augustburnsred). I really don't know much about tone, etc. but I'd say it's very heavy and dark. I have a Mesa/Boogie Dual Recitifer Half Stack and play with the gain at around 8-8.5. A few concerns of mine are 1. Will I be able to choose any set of BKPs for my seven string guitar, 2. Will drop tuning to A be a problem with these pickups, and 3. Are BKP's readily shipped to the U.S. I see that the Warpigs are quite the gain MONSTERS, which I like, but keep in mind that I do crank ALOT of gain from my amp. Another choice that interests me is the Nailbomb and maybe even the Miracle Man. I've yet to find a good choice for a neck pickup, but hopefully all of you will be able to help me. Please check out that link to get an idea of what type of music I play and the tone I'm going for. Right now I have a Fender Fat Strat (HSS) with an EMG-81 and two EMG-S's. I cannot say that I'm totally blown away by my 81... I can really barely tell the difference between it and my other guitarists' stock B.C. Rich pickups (a STARTER KIT guitar, mind you). warpigs apparently are amazing with drop tunings

Well the warpigs are massively high output. You should have enough gain with a Mesa Recto that you should have no problems with the Nailbomb as well. The Warpigs and Miracle Mans may have a little more balls than you prefer depending on what kind of metalcore you play.

Nailbomb, Warpig, Ceramic Warpig, Miracle Man

are the pickups i'd be looking at in your situation, just listen to as many clips of the aforementioned pickups and decide which one you think suits your style the most..

The tone of August Burns Red has Nailbomb written all over it.

BKP's aren't cheap but not as expensive as SD custom shop or other high end pickups. BKP beats 'em all and that makes 'em worth the money.

Warpigs work incredibly well with 7 strings. I had a Warpig in an old 7 string i used to have and it really tightened up the sound and gave alot of clarity. I would like to get one for my current 7 string but it's got a EMG 707 so i can't fit one in.

Thanks alot everyone for the responses. At first I was a little discouraged by the few post views, etc. but I forgot alot of you live many hours away :lol: . Ok so I'm still between the MM, Nailbomb, and Warpig. I'm having trouble fathoming how a pickup such as the Warpig could be "too" high output for me... One of you mentioned that with my high gain amplifier that the Nailbomb would be "enough" for me, but why not go all the way? Keep in mind I'm quite ignorant about tone and pickups in general, so please give me your input. Also, remember that I'm coming straight from EMG's, so the idea of having MATCHING pickups for the bridge and neck seems crazy to me (think EMG-81 cleans :roll: ... I've read alot that people often have sets of Warpigs, etc. Does that mean that such high output pickups are appropriate for cleans too? Please tell, and thanks again for the input so far.

I think what would be best for you is to put in a request for someone to display the kind of sounds you want to hear and from the pickups that you want to hear it from in the 'Players' section of the forum...

Re;ceramic Mule.........I've tried this type of thing many times and whilst 42 AWG wound coils sound OK powered by a ceramic at practice volume, crank them up at gig level and the bass comes up way too much and it's really hard to hear mid range detail.It's got something to do with the transient response of the 42AWG...............as yet I haven't found a way aound it but I'll keep experimenting :twisted: !

23k Double screw pole Miracle Man

The ceramic pig is the pickup you want, no question. Ultra-tight, snarling mids and sharp, crystal clear highs. Utterly brutal.
