Prepping for Upgrade - Questions
« on: October 28, 2006, 01:27:42 AM »
Here's my '06 LEFTY MIM Strat. I pulled the PG off to get a tracing for a replacement PG, and also to know whether I can squeeze a humbucker into the bridge (BKP VHII !!!). I'm putting the order in once I finalize which singles I want (leaning toward the Mother's Milk).

Obviously, it's not the swimming pool route that I've seen in some online pics, but does the cavity appear to be large enough for a humbucker? To be sure, I wanted to ask you experts if my assumption was right?

Also, would the cavity benefit from additional shielding? Right now with only the PG shielded, this Strat is quiet! I'm just not sure what the hotter pups will do, so again I need your advice.

That guitar is routed for HSS, but I would get the short leg base on the VHII, as I don't see much depth for the adjuster screws.  You could also specify a reverse stagger for the single coils as they are going into a left handed guitar.   This will give you the correct balancing for the strings (unless you are going for no stagger).
So many pickups, so little time

The cavity may already be shielded with conductive paint.

The picture's a bit too small to tell, but it looks like there's a wire connecting the back of a pot to a tag screwed to the bottom of the bridge pickup cavity?  If there is, that would be to connect the shielding paint to ground.
