Well, depending upon your definition of 'boutique', they're hand made, point to point wired and  you have the ability to custom spec certain things.

The LX is a metal/gain monster -although I 've never played thro' one myself  I have heard one up close in a studio and was very, very impressed. Matamps do have their own sound- why not go to the factory (if you're serious- not just tyre kicking) hear them for yourself and discuss the options?

maybe you could tell us which ones you tried and what each of them were lacking so we get an idea of what could be right for you?

And being less adversarial would help, too. No one wants to assist someone that comes across as a belligerent ass.

If you want to know about Matamp then the best people to speak to would be... Matamp. Their phone number is on their website and Jeff, Dave and Hayden are always willing to talk about their amps and what would be best for you. Often they are all willing to talk about thgeir amps at exactly the same moment, so things can get noisy ;) Especially with the potential for customising the voicing and options on the amp, talking to the factory direct is the only way to do :)

I've got a Matamp and personally I think you get a boutique amp and significantly less than boutique prices.

Couple of things. One, matamp power ratings are nominal (clean), so its total power will be much higher (I read somewhere the minimat can reach 8W peak, and that's rated at 2. Not that the LX will reach 240, but it'll be high). Second, where did you find clips? Third, how can you tell from a few clips what an amp won't do? Fourth, you can have it made in pink tolex. Pink. Who cares what it sounds like? And fifth, as someone mentioned, they custom make them, so you could get a 6L6 version with EMGs and ZW44s selotaped to it or something if it's not heavy enough.

I have noticed a couple of threads started by this poster that have been along the lines of "tell me all about [insert name here]"

Whilst BKP forum members will have experiences to draw upon - maybe doing a bit of research and homework first may well be in order

If as the poster says he resides at Harmony Central then there are plenty of descriptive user reviews there that could be studied

Seems that he also doesn't post on any threads other than the one's he starts either...

If he thinks Matamps don't do metal, he's obviously not heard SLEEP/High On Fire, YOB, Acrimony/Iron Monkey/Dukes of Nothing/Black Eye Riot, or any of the other LOUD bands that utilise these truly awesome hand built amps.

If you want a channel switching gain monster, get an Engl/Marshall/Mesa/Whatever the latest trendy band is using amp, if you want tone by the bucket load and volume, get a Matamp.

agree, the clean channel cranked on my el diablo   gives a meaner, heavier sound than the distortion channel for low string riffing.  it's all grit and attitude, which too much distortion seems to take away.

I believe you can get them voiced as you like by special order.  Calling Metamp is your best option.
