EMG User Considering Miracle Man
« on: November 02, 2006, 04:16:28 AM »
Hello Everyone

I hear Miracle Man is a Passive alternative to a EMG 81.
I am thinking of replacing my EMG 81 and EMG 60 with a Miracle Man Set.

While a find the EMGs lifeless I love the ay they are EQ ed.

Does The Miracle Man have the same EQ as the EMG 81.

How hot is the Miracle Man Neck Pickup is it hotter than a EMG 60.

Those of you who used to use The EMG 81
but switched to The Miracle Man Set.

* Do You Miss Them a little.

* Do you have any regrets.

Thankyou  :D  :D  :D

I used to use EMGs and only EMGs

Theres more than the MMs for EMG replacement!

BKs I've got since then in bridge positions are:

Miracle man
23k ultra-miracle man
Warpig
Ceramic warpig

And a cold sweat in the neck with the cWP. And some single you wont be interested in.

EQ wise none are the same as an 81.

81s have a ton of high end and high mids, a super-smooth mid and very deep but quite queit bass. They also of course have that in-your-face attack and compression, and only EMGs have quite that sound.

The miracle man has more bass, yet smoother mids and a clear high end thats higher than the 81. Its a fair bit lower gain. It sounds much bigger though, richer and louder. Its has far more prescence in a mix.

The WP sounds like a similar-gain, less in-your-face attack, MUCH bigger, less compressed (but more than a miracle man) sounding 81 if the pig is in basswood and maple and the 81 is in all-mahogany. That should give you some idea of the eqing.

The ceramic warpig is where its at for EMG replacement: equally in your face, equally clear but massively heavier, MORE gain and rips and crushes with equal comfort.

As for the 60, I really like that pickup too; its my favourite humbucker to date. Its got this really-good-clean, really-good-shred thing going on. The cold sweat is the only bk I have for comparison inthe neck and the shred is MUCH better and the cleans are very good; rich and full, but bell-like. But theres something about a 60s clean that does it for me. I dont know what the equivelant would be.

I do occasionally miss the EMG sound (I sold the guitar I had them in: yamaha SG, sounded as good as EMGs are going to sound). But NEVER while I'm playing my BKP'd guitars

No regrets :D

Thanks Mark

I use EMGs because of the following.

I don't like having a too much bass in my sound.
To Me Bass = Mud.

Thats one of the reasons I am so fond of the 81 I don't have to fight with the bass.

I like my Mid Range and Highs to be honest I wish my EMG 81 had more Highs or is it Presence.

If the Emg 81 is 100% Emg 81

What is the Miracle Man

Mate, the mud problem is half the reason I use BKs!

Most bassy pickups are muddy. Its true. And its really annoying!

Yes I agree, bass = mud.

But NOT with BKPs. The bass is always fast and punchy and NEVER at the cost of the high end: they are ultra clear. I mean EMG clarity. I wouldnt have switched otherwise: I used EMGs because they gave me a lot of gain without mud, too.

Check the players forum for soundclips. There are some ozzy ones in les pauls, I believe.

I used to have an ESP Kirk Hammet KH-2 with EMGs. I've also got an Epi Les Paul with a MM set. The MM's just feel better - more harmonics and tone and a boat load more presence than the EMGs. I liked the ESP (it was really nice to play) but couldn't justify keeping a £1900 guitar that didn't sound any better than a £3/400 guitar!!
You won't be disappointed with any of the BKP range if you make the switch. And if you don't like a muddy bass, the MMs have a really tightest bass without sounding weak or thin.
MM set, warpig set, about to be fitted - custom 7 bridge 'pig, CS7 neck.

Well I have a dual allen head MM and I love it.

However it does not have the same EQ as the 81(I have one)

I find that the 81 has quite a bit more mid, and a bit more gainy and more compressed.

However the MM as LOADS of bass.... BUT its sooo tight, alot tighter than the 81 and better string definition as well.  I don't think it has quite the harmonics (I have yet to decide.. they are very close anyway), but they do sound better the harmonics that you can pull.

listen to Thor's clips in the players section, I think they could be the best yet.

hope this helps

MMM
Im sorry to be persistant...but I'm on a mission to build the most badass guitar of all time.

MMs have balls, EMG 81s lack balls and have an excess of high mids.

What's the guitar by the way?  That matters now :P
Real men turn their volume to 11!

Rebel Yells + Les Paul = the Ultimate Rock Pickup.

ESP Viper 301 Mahogany Neck and Body and Rosewood Fretboard.

I went ahead and had a dual Battery Cavity routed out for me

The sad thing is I knew about the Miracle Man before I installed my EMGs.

Back then there were only one or two recorded sound clips, and they sucked big time.

What has been holding me back for the last Month or two is this attitude.

"if I get a Miracle Man Set installed in my Guitar what am I going to use my Battery Cavity for ?

Mark, did you get rid of the Yamaha because you got sick of the EMGs, or were you selling it anyway?  I once put EMGs in a Hamer Vector, got really pissed off with them and - inexplicably - decided to sell the guitar.  I have no idea why I didn't just swap the pickups!

Wish I still had that guitar...
