Cheap 6L6 Power Amps?
« on: November 02, 2006, 11:03:19 AM »
Hi guys - since my JCM800
A) has el34s, and
B) doesn't have an input that bypasses the preamp
I don't feel that my Mesa V-Twin preamp is really getting its full potential, due to colouration that it just doesn't need.
I don't know much about poweramps - but i'd like one that can amplify my preamp's signal, preferably with 6L6 valves (for that american sound, although i'm open to other options too - since you probably know better than i), that i can plug into my jcm800 combo's 2 12" celestions (8ohms). Thanks!

Thanks Jonathan - I'm keeping an eye on this; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=130041603627&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=003#ebayphotohosting
However - i think the other two are quite a way out of my price range to be honest.

you could have a tech mod the JCM800 to have an effects loop - the return jack is where you'd plug the V-Twin into, just like you would if you were plugging into the 'input' of a power amp.

yeah i thought about that - but i decided that a new power amp would be easier as i can't find anyone to do that mod for me (hell, i can't even find anyone local to rebias it for me) and it'd most probably be more effective to get the vtwin its own seperate power amp, since then i can have a more american-based sound.
Also - this would mean that eventually (when i get another cab) i could play through both the jcm800 and the mesa at the same time, getting the best of both worlds i suppose...
