Good Quality Cabs?
« on: November 03, 2006, 06:48:28 PM »
I've recently just accuired a set of G12T75's which are my favourite speakers, a nice old set around 12 year old and sound really nice and warn in..

Im just looking for a good cabinate to put them into they're currently in a marshall 1922 which to be fair is a pretty poor cab very directional and thin sounding due to it's lack of depth, so anyone know anywhere I can get a good reasonably priced EMPTY 2x12 cab?

give Matamp a call - they will sell empty cabs & build to your spec.  I think they sell empty 4x12s for £150 so you should get an empty 2x12 for a ton.

James, don't take this the wrong way, but you like those things?  Usually I agree with you, but I find those to be the speakers that give Celestions a bad name.  Ever tried the Classic Leads (knowing you, probably :))?  They have good lows too but not as muddy and smoother (and more) mids... I replaced the G12T-75s in my slanted cabinet (the only one I ever really use) with Classic Leads and I've only used my straight cabinet two times since, once when I first got the Classic Leads for comparison purposes, and the other time was actually when I was making Les Paul + Rebel Yell clips I decided to see how they sound through that.

That said, I have a near perfect condition JCM 800 era 4x12 1960B I'd like to get rid of with four original G12T-75s.

Avatarspeakers.com sells empty cabinets as well, but I'm not sure if it will be any different than a Marshall 1922.  Is the 1922 the budget 2x12 and the 1936 the good cabinet?  Is that how it works?  I've never even seen a 1922, and I don't think you can buy them in the US.
Real men turn their volume to 11!

Rebel Yells + Les Paul = the Ultimate Rock Pickup.

Those 75w Celestions are far from my fave speaker with vintage amps but with anything high gain they do seem to work very well.  oh, and give them LOTS of volume too, they really start to cook with the amp cranking.

For an all purpose speaker, I like the G12H-30, they're great for vintage AND modern tones, V30s are probably next in line and the Classic Lead that fps_dean suggested are nice too but I find they sound best with gainier amps (sounded excellent with my old Tonemaster but cr@p with a Bluesbreaker)

Check these out:
http://www.award-session.com/amplifiers_cabinets.html

They got a great review in Guitarist magazine not so long ago, and look to be great value for money. I almost bought one, but then landed a 1922 cab (which I like, by the way :-) )
