Cracking rehearsal tonight!

Change of plan for the 'DC boys - we went round to "Malcolm"s flat and rehearsed/recorded there.  One condenser mic in the middle of the (small) room.  No drums (except for knee slaps!), bass on low volume through his usual rig and rhythm guitar through his MG Marshall at low volume too.  I took the Epi Valve Junior combo and a Marshall Bluesbreaker II overdrive/distortion pedal.

Everything was played at un-mic'd vocals level and it sounds great!  Who needs an expensive rehearsal room?  If I can get anything in a useful size I'll post it as I took my Mule equipped GS-1 with me so it's eligible for posting  ;)

So that's an Epi VJ + BBII + used GS-1 + Mule = £400 worth of gear  :D

Slightly off topic, what do you think of the Marshall Bluesbreaker 2, I like mine a lot but people seem to slag it off in favour of the Ibanez TS.

I tried the two of them against eachother and preferred the Marshall

I've got a BB2, a Drive Master and a Maxon OD-9 (Tubescreamer).

They're all good for different things:

BB2 - great for a clean boost and lower gain blues/rock.  Has quite a "busy" tone but it's full and quite thick sounding.  Did a great Angus tone tonight, which surprised me!

Drive Master - superb rock/old metal pedal.  Really does sound like a stack at reasonable volume!  My favourite pedal to use with my Valve Junior for practice, given the full EQ tweakability.  Thin Lizzy in a box.

OD-9 - I use it for solo boosts only, not for a main sound.  Superb at what it does - adds mids and volume to fatten out solos.  Works well with the Drive Master when the DM is set cleaner than Death Metal  ;)

I agree with you -sometimes you just find that groove and the gear is almost irrelevant. In bands I have been in there have been occasions where we would rehearse in someone's living room and the ability to hear exactly what everyone is doing was quite useful and when reverting back to rehearsal or gig volume it improved everything.
