Bare Knuckle Pickups @ Gak

I just noticed that GAK are selling BKs: http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/products.php?s=&k=bareknuckle&m=Brands&c=Products&r=Price+Range

But I was just wondering why they are only selling high gain buckers and not any low gain or singles...

I was thinking its maybe a popularity thing, but the amount of people with Mules, Crawlers, Black Dogs, Irish Tours etc must outnumber those who have Nailbombs, Warpigs etc...

I am confused...

Could someone maybe clarify the situation. Tim?

Thanks alot,

RorySRV,

Why would the lower output pickups sell more than the high output pickups with fancy covers? Most guitarists nowadays are metalheads, posers, or more commonly both.

I wanna know, why when so many folks (illustrated by this board) are so into Rock/Metal that this country is running a VERY poor second to USA for Rock/Metal bands? (I am NOT familiar with 'Johnny Kills Dolphins' or whatever local band is in your town, I mean BIG bands, like we used to have and lets face it INVENTED! Where's the Black Sabbath's, Maiden's, Waysted's,Priest's??????????????????).

On Topic :

Which bare knuckle pickups tend to get reviewed in magazines ?

Which ones will GAK therefore sell most of ?

As long as Tim & Co sell lots of metal monsters they will be selling lots of the less extreme models too. Thats got to be good :)

Off Topic:

Look at it this way BBC Radio 2 plays more challenging music than Radio 1 that may be a hint :(

The UK has become a nation of sheep following whatever bland trends that the record companys decide should be played on our TV & Radio stations.

Apart from Jools Holland what music programs are there on TV (I do not count MTV, VH1 and their ilk to be anything other than product placement vehicles so please don't mention them)

come to think about it when did R&B lose both the Rhythm and the Blues and become the cr@p we suffer now ?

I think as a country we just want to think and pretend we like rock/metal, rather than actually liking them. Hence mcfly using mesas and that busted tw@t yelling (the word screaming sounds too musical) in his new band and putting fire in their video and an agressive name about fighting... There's all this shitee that gets passed off as rock and metal, almost specifically so that an army (granted, not the strongest force in the world) of 12 year olds can buy EMGs and ESPs and ENGLs and whatever else on the market has big numbers and capital letters and not have to feel guilty about listening to pop music because if the bands even think they're metal, they must be. Or maybe it's just that we, as a country, have no talent.

i don't think he was dissing metal as a genre, just the cr@p that's coming out of this country and being referred to as 'metal' by tools

I think you're reflecting your current listening there Nick!  Waysted were a great band, but they were never even medium-sized, never mind BIG!

But I know what you mean, there does seem to be a lack of new British metal bands (lots of not-quite-rock bands of the Coldplay, Hard Fi, Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs etc ilk though).

Having said that, I've found most of the new American metal bands pretty underwhelming the last few years.  I don't know if they're really mediocre or if it's just me getting old.  To be honest, metal has never been the same for me since somebody (I know not who) came up with the idea of "singing" like the Cookie Monster.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

I'm not sure what metal is really as apparently the term was coined about the Byrds (by Lester Bangs I think).

Having varied tastes (too varied) I keep on waiting for the resurgence of bands that have both energy and attitude. Unfortunitely one cannot accuse the coldplays or Snow Patrols of having either :(

Although not metal I find that Kasabian and Muse to be the closest that are around ATM Sort of glam or prog with attitude. I hate the fact that over the last 15 years I am having to go back in time to find anything to listen to.

Anyway I thought this was about pickups, perhaps we should start another thread in another section as this could run & run.

Rob...

PS I also enjoy the Kaiser Chiefs bith their misuc and the attitude

Waysted was on my mind, but the rest STILL stands (and Waysted came from UFO so that is more relavant :)).

Living in the US for so long (yeah I KNOW it's vast) we had 3 Rock/Metal radio stations in my area alone!

Metal/Rock bands came reg. to play gigs, albums were out every week.

I know music changes but I just do NOT see any UK acts (I count as metal, and this means SINGING and NOT!!!!!!!!!!! here me, NOT screaming into a mic) around.

I am proud, but very sad right now :(

We need to have MORE Rock/Metal bands to make the pup/axe etc. sales make more sense.

I guess I am getting old and grumpy :(

To ALL you guys still in school (I hated it when I was told this BTW), enjoy it, being an adult and growing up with responsibilities and all these changes SUCKS!

And yeah, I guess alot is cos I lived in US for so long so am having hard time adjusting.

You know, I hardly EVER played a CD in my car in US, I constantly listened to the radio. Here, it would drive me to suicide.

Oh well.

I hear a desert island calling my name, where I can be happy, play as loud as I want and not be surrounded by mindless pop cr@p

I thought (in my alcohol addled state) the phrase Heavy Metal was first coined by a journalist trying to write about Sabbath? hmmm
