Ok here's a small clip of my Mule, quick and dirty.
Guitar is custom made solid body cedar/maple top HSH, comping is made on the neck/middle (SD Jazz/Heaussel blues), solo is on the Mule.
Played on a Mesa nomad with an HK Red Box after the preamp (it's 22:30!)
I added speaker simulation in Cubase on the lead to smoothen it a bit. I might try to do a better job saturday when I can use speaker and mic, and more tone variations.
But this should give you an idea of what a Mule can do with gain.

How do you add a speaker sim in Cubase? I have an old version of Cubasis and would like to know how as when I've tried Line In from my hotplate the results are always cr@p..

Guessing the good tone is also from the speaker sim, would you say this can sound as good as mic'ing, or does it make it sound less "dynamic" or whatever?

WFD: It's a bridge Mule for the lead. Played on the Mesa Nomad channel 2 vintage voicing, that's where the fat tone comes from. I can't use my neck pup on this channel. I'll try to post another clip soon using the other lead channel and a Tonebone.

_tom_: I used 'mda Combo' amp simulator VST pluggin http://www.mda-vst.com/ maybe not the best or most versatile but it's free. The HK Red Box DI has an cabsim too that corrects already quite a bit. Remember that part of the tone, actually any tone is the ambiant tone or the impact from the environnement. Once you only select the direct sound, tapping it electronically or with a mic in front of the speaker you exclude that ambiant tone removing coloration, dynamic perception etc... The art of studio engineering is to be able to recreate that. Well I'm only a humble home recording hobbyist. I'd say a good mic or mic combination can't be beaten but at 22:30 in a living room...DI will do :?

Well it's probably because it's played on a vintage Mesa sort of channel and I tried to display how much a Mule could sing and sustain. It could sustain much longer but due to the late hour I had switched the speakers off.
Even if Santana has not been really a big infuence for the last 25years (has been before of course) I take your coment as a big compliment thanks 8)
