I think i'm going to swap my EL34s for some 6L6's when I get a chance, and some money. I dont really like british sounds, lol. Oh well
Joe
Hi Joe,
Don't get me wrong, as a Fender amp fan, I
love the HUGE glassy soundstage and headroom that 6L6s give.
With a 6L6 loaded Laney, I have a warmer version of the Fender sound, but with a lot more (smooth) gain when I need it.
It's just that I always associate Jensen speakers with 6L6s and V30 or Greenbacks with EL34. (Not that I have ever owned a EL34 type amp ).
I also read on someone else's post that the EL34 output had:
"more midrange detail".
I was therefore not sure if 6L6s and Greenbacks were 'tonal bedfellows'.
Answers on a postcard please ... :D
By the way Joe, if you desire the 6L6, I can heartily recommend the 7581a type that I got from Watford valves last year. Even cleaner and tighter sounding than the 6L6 type. The biasing was very close to being the same as standard 6L6 types.
