Soldering Irons
« on: November 20, 2006, 11:41:51 PM »
Hey guys.

I came to remove the pickups from my Gibby LP over the last few days and found out that my 40w Soldering Iron is broken, so I need a replacement before I can take my pickups out.

Would a 25w Iron be enough to heat up pots and grounding points etc? Or would I be better off with 30w-40w?

The sooner I can get a new Iron, the sooner I can get my Mules ordered! So get off your lazy @sses people and recommend me a soldering iron!

PS. Only joking  :D  But I do need help quite quickly!

I have a 50W Antex iron with adjustable temperature (200 to 450 degC) - it's great for soldering onto pots and you can turn the temp right down for soldering fine wires without melting all the insulation.

I never need to turn it up to the maximum temperature, so it's probably a bit more powerful than necessary!

^ soldering irons sound better cranked to 10, don't you know that?

;)

I have the antex one jonathan mentioned (i think). I'd recommend it, but, er..., I haven't actually got round to taking it out of the box yet. It was recommended to me by someone else who knew their stuff about electronics, though.

I've ordered an Antex 30w Iron. So as soon as I get that, I can take the Seths out and get some Mules iN! :D
