Alien surfing through my head...

...and I can't get rid of it!  Arghh!

Started learning Joe Satriani's "Surfing with the Alien" last night.  I bought the tab a while back and thought I'd make a start as a break from 'DC tunes and as a bit of a challenge.  Should make a good party piece too  ;)

Ibanez RG670DXBK -> Crybaby Wah -> Marshall Drive Master -> Epiphone Valve Junior combo

Got a great tone, harmonics are leaping out and I've got through the first two thirds of page 1 of 10(!!)  I think it might take quite a few weeks to get through as I want to nail it note perfect.  The trouble is I've got the opening riff rattling around my brain on continual loop and I can't get rid of it.  Arrrgggggg!

Duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh duh-de-duh-der!
Der-de-duh der-de der-de der-de der-de der-de-der-duh!

Oh, and the crazy speed picked stuff in the middle looks completely impossible  :o

it's hard, no doubt. I kind of half-learnt it, then made up the rest myself.

umm. I suppose I'd better go back through it sometime to get it off note-perfect.

good luck!

I understand your pain!

I gave up on learning Satch via tab as I just couldn't get the nuances right. I found that learning the classic songs via great DVD presented by one of his former students did the trick though.

Good luck!

Ah, great fun!

I remember back in the day when I was puzzling out those guitar parts. There's a whole education packed onto that CD. Have fun! Start slow!

Cheers matey - slow is the only option for the first few runs through a new section!!!!!

As an old-skool rocker it's one hell of a change in playing style!

The second solo on Ice 9 (wah in the high position) still makes the hairs on my neck stand up every time I listen to it :D  :D

Look there on the horizon

I meant my playing style, not the age of the track  ;)
