Adding in-wall attenuator to reduce volume. Ohm question?
« on: November 22, 2006, 02:27:52 PM »
Hi Guys,

I'm going to install an in-wall attenuator.  The link is at the bottom.
I have an Epiphone Valve JR head and 2x12" 8ohm speakers. Currently I have the (2) speakers wires in parallel and plugged into the 4 ohm output of the head.
The guy from the below website said he measured the radio shack attenuator @ 5ohms.
www.amptone.com/wallmountspeakerattenuator.htm
My question is, how do I wire what I have for best results.
Will having the speakers @ 4ohms into the 4ohm output of the head with this attenuator @ 5ohms in-between be okay? or will the 4ohm load from the speakers and the 5ohm load of this attenuator make a 2.22 load to the head?
thanks in advance!!!
Chris

Adding in-wall attenuator to reduce volume. Ohm question?

Hi Shag,

I was thinking of doing the same thing for my Valve Junior but wasn't sure where to get the In Wall Attenuator, so thanks for the link!  However, I can't answer your ohmage question.

Have you asked anyone on the message boards of www.epiphonevalvejunior.com? (I think thats the address...)
A number of people were discussing using it as an attenuator on there.

I've recently soldered in some mods I bought of EBay into my EVJr Combo and have been very pleased with the results.
It's still too damn load though!

Good luck for you search.

There are much better attenuators out there!

Try looking here: www.speakercraft.com.

PM me if you're interested in one, I'm a SpeakerCraft dealer.
