i know my local one doesn't let anyone with long hair or makeup try anything out :P

Um, does that include women?  :?

Bloodmountain, if you're getting your Dad to try it out, why not go along with him?  That way you get to try it too and the staff won't give you any sh!t.

Joking aside, it's pretty ludicrous for a shop that depends on musicians for their income to judge people on appearances.  No wonder British popular music isn't what it was if you need a sensible haircut to buy a guitar.

And I can't remember the last time I saw a female customer trying something in a guitar shop either.  Acoustics, yes.  Electrics, no.

The Dean Razorback, the definitive guitar for bald women guitarists over 40.

Jeez that sounds like a real cr@p shop or that there is somthing wrong with the guitar for sale.

Actually this sounds like the story of when Vivien Campbell (of Dio et al) went through when he tried to buy his first Ferrari.

Don't know the story, but I doubt it'll have me overflowing with sympathy for the poor lad....

If a shop don't let you try it out. Leave. Take your money elsewhere.

Personally, after that, I wouldn't shitee on their doorstep if they asked me nicely.

(Hence I don't go to Matchett's, Tughan Cranes, Session Music (a much longer story!) or Bairds any more)

yeah, i am never going into their shop again. if they judge me just because i have long (ish) hair, then that is not a real guitar shop. its a stereotypical shop that just likes to put guitars on show, rather than let their possible customers play them.

i would go with my dad to try it out, but he has already gone, and there is no way he would take me with him, because of school and the like.

matchetts is a lot better than it used to be. or else the manager recognises me now. 1 of the 2. but they're definitely a lot friendlier than they used to be.

tughan cranes is shut now i think (or moved).

Off topic I know
Tugan Cranes is indeed closed down (only any good for sheet music anyway)
Session closed (as a sales outet) almost 3 years ago.
Matchetts are ok cept for all the school kids (little bast**ds), and some of the real cr@p they sell

I have a great liking for Bairds as the first time I eve went in they left me in charge of the shop while they went to the pub for some christmas drinks (I had never been in the shop before). That was in the days when Tokais lawsuit models first turned up. They always used to have great 2nd hand guitars.

The Belfast guitar Emporium is OK but I would prefer it to be a bit less coffee shop style. Though I do want the Tokai double cut LP Jr (ohhh it's nice) and the 63 Jaguar (http://www.belfastguitaremporium.com/)

For a decent guitar selection I have found that the closest to belfast is in Blackrock (tis a pity the staff remind me of Britany Spears recent pictures), but they have interesting used guitars and amps (with some new stuff).

I dunno man, I was near Session not six months ago. It moved on up the Donegall Pass, up near the police Station. Well, Nearer. Everything on the Donegall Pass is pretty near the police station. I didn't go in. I was threatened by members of staff in there, so I couldn't care less if it burnt down, to be honest.

The Emporium's great as long as you deal with the boss man (Neil). He's a damned good businessman, and really knows how to sell stuff, not how to make you buy it, which are two very different things. I myself have been gassing on that Tokai doublecut. My old Voodoo strat is in there too, and it's a lovely axe.

I remember when Barry Sheen (then World Top Rider) landed by helicopter at TOP Australian Hotel (for OZ part of Bike Championship) and was met by the manager and told he could'nt stay there looking like that (jeans and T-Shirt), till he was informed who Barry Sheen was LOL! Embarressment ensued!

aye, the emporium is very coffee-shoppy... you can sometimes hardly get their attention if you want to try anything as they're all having a group chat round those couple of couches in the centre... definitely a nice shop, though, the nicest we have over here by far (that I've been in, anyway).

still have to find out where blackrock is,

Though it has been 2 years since I was last there.
