hi,
this is to anyone who has any experience with the razorback...

How well does it play? every review i have read says that it plays awesome... even the one that gave it 5 overall (that was only one out of about 15 reviews though). i might be getting one for 570 pounds, so its a huge discount from the 995 RRP.

my local guitar shop wouldnt let me try it out cause they were selling it for 995! they said it was too expensive to try out. liars.

Thanks for any help,  BLOODMOUNTAIN

The Dean Forum is really good
www.deanguitars.com/forum
They are supposed to play well and the trem is supposed to be pretty decent.

i haven't tried the razorback, but I've tried the dimebag ml model (the transparent burst one).

I wasn't impressed at all- felt like korean/chinese (which it is) manufacture, only you get to pay £700 instead of £300.

The dimebucker is horrible. and it's a no-name floyd copy on it.

you can get a pro-level guitar for £700, easily. The dean dime's that I've tried aren't.

I'd avoid it, but I guess it depends how badly you want the dean shape.

another thing - obviously i don't know you, but if you're anything like me you'll outgrow that shape, if not that style of guitar in time, and you'll wander what they hell you were thinking, and you'll be stuck with an embarrasingly extreme-styled guitar and seeing far higher quality guitars more moderately priced and moderately shaped.
Make sure it's what you want

heres the follow-up... im not paying 700... only 570.

about the dimebucker... im easily impressed, so i wont be disappointed, and anyway i wont have and never have had any BKPs to compare it to, so i will be happy with it, until i shove it in the neck and put a C-WP with burnt chrome cover in the bridge!!!!! hahaha!!!

ahem... anyway, about the shape, i got bored of my SG and i am SICK TO DEATH of the strat shape, but i think i will enjoy this one. i will never get bored or sick of the shape, just it will eventually feel normal when i pick it up.

Plus with an explosion paint job, it will take me 10 years to get bored of it, and by then, i will have enough money to buy myself 1 or 2 custom made axes anyway, so its all fine in my book (and my book is pretty small tho, as i said, im easily impressed.)

^ just try an ibanez rg1570, and jackson sl3 as well...

both of those are around the same price- just to compare to. (the ibanez is about £450, that'd leave you enough for pickups of your choice)

even £570 is a lot if it plays like the dimeburst ml i tried.

995 reduced to 570 and you cant try it, errr that smells of rodent to me !

Get a decent play in it or avoid it like the plague

It's not as if a 1000 quid guitar is particularly high end in this day and age.

Scum.

That really hacks me off. We're supposed to hand over large sums of money for an guitar thats sitting right there a few feet away based on faith?

Never buy anything you dont try (all things being equal: pickups and custom stuff is another story).

Never buy from anyone that wont let you try it.

You wanna give those guys your money for service like that?

i paid £479 (iirc) for my Dime O Flame

really happy with it, cant fault the setup\build at all

neck and frets are great, chunkier than my Legra

dimebucker swapped out for a warpig :P

trem is a copy but holds tune great (and i dont use the trem for divebombs anyway)

the shape is great, feels easy to play

the wiring inside was tidy when i changed the pickups.

In the past I paid nigh on £800 for a Jackson RR5 rhoads, now that was a piece of turd, dodgy gold hardware that faded instantly, a rattley scratch plate (wood was so soft the screws worked lose every couple of days lol), tall thin frets, and pretty poor SD pickups.... looked cool and the neck was nice!

it was kind of awkward when they told me i couldnt try it out... after they said it i just said to my friend "hey, i want to check that lightning baby dean" and went around the corner scowling

yeah, that dime o flame sounds good... ive heard the razorback is better lol... i was thinking of changing the dimebucker to a burnt warpig too, but only if i dont like the tone or if i have any spare money  :)

i will ask my dad, who is going to get it cheap from the USA, to try it out: he is a blues player who demands a nice neck and action, so i trust his opinion.

I have also checked out the dean forum, and no bad customers, except a problem with the trem screw IN arm, which they fixed by buying a screw ON arm from an original floyd rose, which doesnt cost that much.

EDIT: response to a comment further up, i hate ibanez! they often dont come in mahogany (my favourite wood for tone), stock pickups are said to be rubbish, and the shape is dead boring IMO.
also, the shop is just a local guitar shop, not a music shop, it specializes in guitars. i saw a guy try something out just as i came in! the scoundrels.

i suspect that their choice to not let you try the guitar was based largely upon what you look like - some guitar shops don't tend to let you try things if you look very young (and therefore, most probably unable to actually buy the guitar), and i know my local one doesn't let anyone with long hair or makeup try anything out :P
let them know you're for real and they may reconsider

also, going in with your friend could have done it too... if you go in with your mates, they think you have 30 minutes to wait until your train, and you're just showing off in front of your mates, not actually thinking of buying...
