Rhythm guitarist needed

The rhythm guitarist in my band has been nothing but trouble since day one. If he turns up at rehearsals at all he’s often late and/ or drunk and forgets what he’s supposed to be playing. Before our last gig I got him to come round to my house for lunch and kept him occupied for the whole afternoon just to make sure he didn’t get legless for the gig.

Friday was the last straw – we were due to audition drummers so we got together a couple of weeks before to work out which songs we were going to do. We went through each one and worked out individual parts so that they would all sound good.

On the night he turned up with a six pack and spent ages between each song fiddling with his amp. Half the songs he forgot and the other half he played the parts that I was supposed to play which meant I had to change mine on the fly. During a break the bass player and I decided if we each drank one of his beers there wouldn’t be enough left for him to get too drunk on. He finished the remaining four and while a prospective drummer was there, thought it would be a good idea to disappear for half an hour to go and buy some more. He returned with another eight! Thankfully the drummer is still interested.

After the rehearsal the bass player and I both had a right go at him and Saturday morning he did the decent thing and left the band.

Do you think it would be bad form to advertise on here for a replacement?

OOpse... You've picked a bad day to replace a drunk guitarist on the BKP board...

We've all gone beer crazy and some are considering the joys of Special Brew!

I know that type of player. Get rid of him. He's clearly unmotivated, unreliable anti social and probably untalented. I've seen guys like that. Nothing but trouble and agrivation.

Get a good and motivated rhythm player. A good rhythm player can be just as valueable as a good drummer.

check out Musofinder or forming bands dot com of whatever-you can google them or I can get you the correct address. Good luck-I echo what the others have said-get someone who is as dedicated as you are-always a good policy to get someone who can also sing cos singing guys(or girls) are very very useful. A good rhythm guitarist is invaluable.
Send three and fourpence we're going to a dance

Guitarists are ten-a-penny. Drop that sum bitch like he'll give you cancer, youre going nowhere with him on board. Get another one. It'll take you a week, tops.

OK, I'm sticking the ad out tomorrow but I thought I'd preview it here in case any forum members are interested:

We're looking for a competent rhythm guitarist to complete a rocking five piece. Sample material:

Knock On Wood - Bowie
Hard To Handle - Black Crowes
Mama Told Me Not To Come - Stereophonics/ Tom Jones
Roll Over DJ - Jet
Should I Stay Or Should I Go - The Clash
Get It On - T Rex
Rocks - Primal Scream
Rebel Yell - Billy Idol
Sit Down - James

You don't need to be able to play any lead or anything fancy but you must:

be able to play solid tight, rock rhythm,
have good gear/ tone (not so worried about effects and other toys but a decent guitar/ amp would be nice),
have your own transport,
be within travelling distance of Croydon,
turn up to rehearsals on time and sober enough to play,

We're all the wrong (right) side of 30 so, unlike many bands advertising on these boards, ability is more important than age.

Still interested? Contact Gary at world_service_info@hotmail.com

or pm me.

Cheers guys.

Wish I lived closer to you, your set list sounds much better than what I'm stuck with in the cover band I'm in at the minute :(

Sounds like a nice ad Gary. Too nice for a bloke like me and Croyden might as well be the Midlands for the time it would take for me to get there. I do know a bloke called Jonathon in Croyden, he has some nice gear

As for the bloke you got rid of, all I can say is i feel your pain man! I can see such a thing happening with this bass player i've hooked up with. He can't play, drinks to the point in the studio where he gets lairy, forgets everything and I recently noticed is a cuckold, which is bollocks! You need a pair to play fast and in time ect!
