It's your basic basswood superstrat, nothing great really. The trem is pretty good (not a lo-pro edge thow), cr@p pickups, confortable neck, very neutral in nature (basswood).
A RGT42DX is better IMHO, neck through, nice trem, HH cr@p pickups, mahogany body (but it'll be relatively bright thx to the NT design), confortable neck. It'll better after upgrade I think.
Those are mostly made in korea I think, even if some of the older models are MIJ.

^ ^ i disagree, the trem on that through neck is an edge pro II, as far as I'm aware.

the rg470 is great- apart from the trem (and pickups).

i'd just get a 1570, it's handier in the long run.

or an s-series. basically they're better :P imo
I love mine - you won't find a comfier body or neck, the stock pickups curiously werent all that bad (ibanez QM quantum series), the ZR trem is fantastic! all s-series models also have mahogany bodies. none of this basswood malarkey. I look at the RGs and i look at the S series and i wander why people even consider buying modern RGs

I'd check out the S-470 if i were you mate - my friend has it and it rocks out. he also stuck a warpig in it - now it's not only a guitar but a MONSTER

Used RG550 (Japanese) would get my vote over any new Korean RG.

:D I used to own a RG470. I think i`m right in saying they`ve been discontinued ?

If it`s one of the old ones it should be loaded with Ibaneze V7, V8, S1 pups. these are every bit as good as Dimarzio, Duncan, Super Distortions. BUT i no they changed the pickups at some point for there lesser types. So check 1st.

As for the guitar it played like a charm & never let me down. The trem was great but i hated all of the F***ing around every time i wanted/needed to change a string which is why i got rid of it. If its setup properly it will give you no problems. Nice guitar one of the best i`ve owned.

I've bought four Ibanez RG550s and upwards with maple boards and I've never paid over £375 (three of them included hard cases).
