First of all my new Schecter is looking good :D, though i'm not sure if the locking trem goes up much, so would it be worth routing it for more movement,

OR

Should i invest in an Ibanez Edge/Floyd Rose trem and shove that on it?

you'll see if there is any play left, so you can pull up

you could set it up to float slightly (like some fenders are)

i'd say routing would be the last option, but i'd rather buy a guitar that had a floating trem in the first place, though i'm 100% sure, jonathan would set you up

i dont think a floyd/original edge are compatible with this trem (ie, direct swap) so there may be drilling for new posts involved.

if it cant float in the 1st place, you wont be able to pull up with the floyd either

i'd be inclined to see what it's like, first. from the looks of it, it looks to be a totally different shape to an edge/ofr- looks more like a kahler, in fact. so a kahler may be the easiest retrofit, if you can find measurements for it.

nice guitar, by the way- i didn't post in your thread as I saw it a bit late, lol. If it's USA-made, it should be a cool guitar, and that's a nice price!

i thought it was a kahler too, from the 1st pic.. later i saw it has schechter stamped on it

^ yeah, it's very like a kahler- if he's very lucky, it's a decent copy (along the quality lines of an ibanez edge), in which case it wouldn't need to be swapped at all.

or maybe it'll be the same size as a kahler.

just for the record..

i dont mean the big ol' kahler top mount trem.

i ment their adaptation of the floyd locking sistem, within the specs of a V trem type .. trem

aaaaaahhh... now i get it...

sorry, you wont be able to swap it for any other trem, that i know of, without modification... the screws hold a stop piece, into which the trem is put. it has one long knife edge, which sits in the stop piece and is held in place by it.
you're "stuck" with that trem, if you dont want to do modifications..

what you could do, if you dont want to dril for the trem posts for a floyd, is do a partial route, under the back of the trem, to allow for some pull up.

It's a different design from any of the Kahlers - the front of the bridge is a long knife edge which sits in a grooved bar screwed to the top of the guitar.

I don't think anything will be a direct retrofit, but if you remove the "mounting bar" it'll just leave 2 screw holes so there should (I think) be plenty of wood to drill holes for a Floyd or something.

I'd rather keep it and make it go up instead of buying a new trem and doing a load of diy which would cost loads, since i don't know how to do it.

Will the floating thing work?

I don't have any idea what floating stuff is.

^ I'm guessing once it arrives it should be reasonably obvious as to whether it'll float or not...

push down on the bar, then pull up with a similar amount of force... if the pitch rises, it's floating. if it doesn't, (as long as there isn't a tremel-no or similar gubbins round the back), it's not floating.

I think.

aye. i guess you have to wait and see... hopefully if it goes up a little, that'll be enough. you can kind of cheat- depress it (down) a little before you hit the note, then pull up, and it gives the impression you got more up-pull. also, you can bend up at the same time for more perceived up-pull too.

ah, the tricks you learn when you've had to make do with a cr@ppy lo-trs.

well if what he says is true then you're set! Only recently have i noticed what awesome superstrats you can get for under £200! I wish somebody had told me when i was shopping for my first guitar

coulda started out on an 80's charvel 8) then the chances of me aspiring to rock star status would be significantly higher i feel
