quiet warpigs?

evening folks,

i've got a little problem i hope someone can help me with

just spent my evening installing a set of warpigs in a patrick eggle berlin.  as each pickup went in i plugged it in and tap tested it with a screwdriver, with and without the coil split engaged, to make sure it was in right.  all good, same when i was finished.

 so, i strung her up, ready for some riffage, plugged in to tune up properly and.......nothing.  no sound.  but the tuner could hear it.  if i turn the pod's output up full blast, on a marshall jcm800 setting, i get a quiet clean sound.  there is a tiny output coming from the guitar, hardly what i expected from warpigs!

i've checked through the wiring and can't see anything wrong, and i can't think what would cause low output.  anyone any thoughts?

Do you have another amp to test it into (or another guitar to check the pod?).  If the tuner sees it, then there should be output.  Other than that, check the solder joints for dry joints.

1) Check that you have the earth side of each pickup properly soldered to the back of the pot (and in turn that that is going to the earth side of the jack socket)

2) Make sure that the 2 wires being used as the coil tap are properly soldered
I have been amazed in the past to see that people have them just twisted together rather than properly soldered

the earth's are going to a common ground point, same as the original pickups.  the tap wires were indeed soldered together.  the thing is, the tap test still works.  if i tap the allen bolts i get a thump, if i pull the split switch i get a thump from one row only.

i have tested the pod with another guitar, loaded with a 7 string miracle man and mule combo, and it roars nicely!  

this evening or tomorrow i'm going to try a couple of things to see if they make a difference.  looking at it now, i feel it should work, but it doesn't.  i reckon a bad joint might affect one pickup, but not both.

anyway, we'll see what happens, i'll let you know how i get on.

okay, we have warpigs!  

i don't really understand what was wrong, and in effect is still wrong.  i sat and stared at the wiring, got a couple of wiring diagrams, still couldn't work it out.  tried one thing, all that did was change the split on the bridge pickup from the outer to the inner coil. (you can tell i'm an expert  :roll:  )

so, without really knowing why, i decided to remove the tone control from the circuit, et voila!  full output!

anyone any idea why this is?  i now have a pair of warpigs, but no tone control.  i can live without it, but i'd like to work out what caused it.  this was a join i hadn't made, it was part of the original wiring.
